Leigh Centurions Named As Superleagues Twelfth Side for 2021
It has been confirmed that the Leigh Centurions will replace the Toronto Wolfpack for the Superleague 2021 season after they were determined to have entered the most complete and appealing bid of the six sides who were hoping to play in the topflight next season.
Without playing a ball, or making a tackle, Leigh were chosen ahead of Bradford Bulls, Featherstone Rovers, London Broncos, Toulouse Olympique and York City Knights, much to the delight of their fans, players and administrators.
Coach John Duffy now has a small window during which to strengthen his side ahead of the start of the competition on the 11th March 2021, a time when hopefully there will be some spectators allowed inside stadia.

A real safety first option but probably the right call at the moment. My first thought was Toulouse but there are too many unknowns around travel due to covid and brexit. Bradford would’ve been a joke, London’s squad is way too weak, Fev aren’t anywhere near as strong as Leigh and whilst I’d have loved for it to be York, another year or two of building won’t do them any harm.

You're wrong about Fev, they are as strong as Leigh, both are about the same as their 2019 positions demonstrate.
In fact, the clubs are very similar, both have similar sized grounds, though Leigh is the better of the two. Similar catchment area, Fev picks up a lot of support from Pontefract, a large town with no professional sports team. Both are in heartland areas with a lot of nearby junior clubs.

Leigh has the edge but not by much.
Leigh have been building their squad for months and it is way ahead of Fevs squad for next year as things stand. They’ve got a better squad, a better ground, a man with financial means to back them, a cracking amateur scene (Evens on that I guess) and a good fan base. To me they’re clearly ahead when all things are considered but each to their own.
Leigh probably gambled on winning this by signing guys like Flower, Mellor, Russell etc but it’s worked as it’s put them in a stronger position to now try and build from. I wouldn’t be surprised if Beaumont goes and signs 6 or 7 well paid players now. If you add them in they’re a sniff of staying up.

Good luck to Leigh it is another game that I might get to. Sadly, unless they are given a helping hand, they have been dealt a swine of a hand. Just a few weeks to find suitable players for this level, Strangely enough I wonder if this would be a poison chalice that some of the hopefuls for the year after next are happy to have dodged.

Degsy knows the hand that he has been dealt, so the rest is up to him. Its his lifelong dream to make Leigh a team to be recognised again (as we were in the early 80's), and bring our local rivalry back to it biggest and best.
I remember as a kid going to packed Hilton Park and filling the Kop End at Central Park watching Wigan sides in awe pummelling my Town team with ease, but i loved every minute of it. Once this pesky pandemic is over and done with, a true replication of our Derby will bring back some romance Super League has never really witnessed (not even our win in 2017 )
If we become a side of stability, it wont take much for both LSV and JJB stadiums to become sell outs.

The way that Leigh have been signing so many decent players over the last month or so should tell supporters that they were told before any announcement by a so called independent panel that they were the club to be promoted.

Or it could be Leigh were building to win promotion if we wasn't chosen.

I doubt it tbh. The squad they’ve built is a very good championship one but they need more quality and I think they’ll get it now.

Newcastle Thunder were losing finalists in the 2019 Division One Play Off Final, but as Oldham did not apply to be promoted, Newcastle were elected.
If the same criteria had been carried out for the promotion to the Super League, Featherstone Rovers who were losing play off finalists to Toronto Wolfpack should have been promoted and not Leigh Centuriuns who had a bad season in 2019.
As far as I am concerned, Featherstone Rovers and even Toulouse Olympic who were higher than Leigh Centuriuns in the 2019 Championship League table have both been treated badly by the RFL.
