This came as a bit of a shock to me.I was told today by one of the players that they now have to pay for the meals that the club provide. Now is that just penny pinching from the club or should the players pay for their own meals. I have to say i think it is a bit tight realy. I know it seems quite trivial but i think its out of order

Wigan Ath players are made to pay for there own parking and have to pay £1.50 for beans on toast after training.

I think that is poor if true. Some of the younger players don't get paid a lot anyway.

I don't know if it's true or not, but the majority of companies do NOT now provide free meals. It actually became a tax problem and was classed as benefit in kind.

The food would drop into the benefit in kind bracket, they can either pay for food or pay BIK tax. I would imagine that the club sub a chunk of the food cost like many companies do.

I would assume that the post-match food is still free as it's part of the entertaining the opposing team and would be similar to a sales rep taking a customer out for lunch.

Exactly, try explaining what a P11d is to some, let alone why their beans on toast is on it!

Pre match food is still free and always will be.

As for meals at training I'm not sure whether it is true but it's only the same as people paying for meals at work such as teachers paying for food at school
