Barrie-Jon Mather?

I was watching the 1993-94 season review last night and Mather scored 30 tries that season and must have set a bucket load up as well not to mention one cracking try in Brisbane.

Then he seems to fade off during the next season??

I always got the impression that he rated himself more highly than he should have done.

Perhaps if he'd really knuckled down and not flitted about between the codes, he'd eventually have been recognised as a really good player in his own right, rather than a guy who did okay while he was part of the Wigan super-team.

I can't remember the details but he took Wigan to court over his contract which obviously is probably why he didn't play for the club again. He went to Australia playing for a while before joining Castleford and after that he went to Union.

He was working for Kurki Sports based near Lancaster three or four years ago but I'm not sure if he's still working for them now.

Yeah he started in union if i remember correctly, broke through to our team as a second row, but wasnt very good there, and made the transition
to centre. Where he was successfull

Never really rated him to be honest, a very selfish player. I seem to recall against the ausies at wembley being one on one with the full back and having edwards (i think) inside him. He went to the corner and cocked it up. I think we went on to loose the match. Not saying we lost as a result of that but i seem to remember the game changing on that point!

He is currently Assistant Academy Manager for London Irish, if I'm not mistaken.
