What are your perceptions of George in his fifteen months at Wigan?

I have resurrected the thread when he signed:

Here are a few quotes from various posters on the announcement.

Wes Hooligan wrote:I can't understand this signing at all. He's (quite a lot) worse than Vaealiki. Fair enough if you couldn't afford any better, but I honestly think giving one of the youngsters a chance would be a better option.

Carmont is the kind of player I'd expect someone like Wakefield to sign, not Wigan. The petition to keep him was a pis take.

wigan_knight wrote:Why Cant people realise what Carmont is ?

Hes a stop gap and a decent one. No he's not King or cooper but we cant afford them guys THIS season.

Were running on a low budget and IMO we have with the money available done pretty good with signing. as IL said 08 will be hard but 09 will be different.

Broxy Music wrote:Carmont - poor signing tbh and i doubt he will score more than 5 or 6 trys next year.

But lets be realistic - weve got no money to spend on a good centre and hopefully he can add a bit of experience to a good backline. Anything is better than that tw*t DV.

BrisbaneRhino wrote:I know all clubs have stop-gap sorts of players around, and I understand that at present Wigan have few alternatives in the juniors, so as an individual signing I wouldn't bag it too much.

But seriously the sooner EVERYONE can stop signing players like Carmont (unwanted in the NRL for a reason) and instead play younger players the better. Carmont may be vaguely superior at the moment, but a half decent 18-year old should overtake him in ability TBH.

BTW I'm not particularly having a go at Wigan or Carmont. At Leeds there are a couple of players who if enough juniors were being produced wouldn't be playing SL either.

Now compare all that doom and gloom to the 'hoo har' when Matt King signed for Dire. For me we signed a better performing player at a fraction of the cost.

He has proved a decent capture for the money we paid for him.

Much better than the man he replaced, but that wasnt difficult.

Don't know if I'd want him to stay for next season, but lack of alternatives may force our hand on that one.

If he can re-capture his form from last season I would be happy to keep him.

Solid defence, not much in attack.

Looked out of sorts last night but he is still the best centre at the club. I would like to see him develop a partnership with either Ainscough or Roberts.

He's a good footballer and can see him being a good player for us for another couple of seasons. More of a priority would be to sign anotherncentr to complement him. Gleeson at Warrington may be an option even though he is also getting on

I think he's done quite well for us to be honest. Although, seeing as he had a stomache bug last night, he should never have played! We had Karl Pryce on standby.
