I'd give him a seasons loan - he's hovering in that zone of too good for reserve football but a while off being a 1st team regular. I've seen enough for it to be worth keeping him for the future.

IMO he didn't play well enough v Hull and Castleford and was rightly dropped.

However, he was m.o.m. in the reserve game v Bulls on Saturday.

A loan spell may do him good.

He's only just turned 21, so I wouldn't like to discard him completely.

This seems to be an ongoing problem at Wigan at present. Youngsters who get dropped for showing poor form no longer seem prepared to fight for their places. Instead, they bang a transfer request in.

I don't know who's 'adivsing' Goulding at present, but he certainly can't complain about not getting enough first team chances. IMO, he's often been made a scapegoat for poor team performances, but I've seen little in his play to excite me the way Sam and Ainscough excite me.

He could do worse than assess what happened to Stanton. He too was constantly being told how wonderful he was, until he finally ended up believing it. Several times we heard how upset he was at not being selected for the first team, and how he was flirting with leavng the club. When he eventually did walk, I wonder who was more surpised that nobody in SL was interested in picking him up - him or those who'd been bending his ear?

For what it's worth, I rated Stanton and still think he could make SL. But he clearly made a mistake cutting out when he did. Is Goulding going to do the same?

If Wigan release Goudling it could be a mistake. He has not had fair chance IMO.

A season long loan is clearly the way to go with Goulding and re-assess after that.

If he's desperate to leave, then there's not a great deal we can do. I'd be surprised if it's true though... why would a local lad quit and give up on his local team?

He's played 55 games for Wigan.

I would send him out on loan to a team he would get games for.

We should do this with more players, St Helens will getthe rewards for sending their young players on loan this season.
