John Monie. Not only was he a great coach he knew how a club runs from top to bottom.

As a Wigan coach I would agree.

On a further scale I would say Wayne Bennett.

a good coach is one that :

makes the team greater than the sum of its resources
drums in the basics, so that when players are under pressure, their game holds up
teaches players the ability to play 'off script', and to be able to cope when plan a goes wrong
can see the attributes and skills in a player that will add to the squad
doesnt need a fortune, but can make the best of what he has given

in sl
tony smith
mick potter

outside rugby
brian clough
alex ferguson
arsene wenger

what makes a good coach, should be simple but remember first graham lowe great coach at wigan then went over to manley and got sacked ,john monie came from parramatta when they were near the bottom of the nrl, coached wigan who then were a great side.went to nz warriors got sacked, came back to wigan got sacked.two best coaches imo are wayne bennett and tim sheens, they have stood the test of time.

If the setup is right for the coach then it works for them. If the setup of a club does not go well with the coach, then the coach wont do well. You can have a team full of allstars, but if the chairman is too involved then the coach can do nothing....

Every coach/club is different.

Who can say? But his contract is due to expire at the end of this season.

Strange turn-around really. For the last two and a half years, Wigan fans have been subjected to Nobby's mind-games, wherein he's been constantly rumoured to have been looking for greener pastures at other clubs. I wonder how he feels now that it's the Wigan fans who are looking to make the switch?
