As for who would do better, nobody will ever know, and quite frankly who cares! Against the bigger teams I don't know if you can get those stats, but I'm not that bothered, we won the double, with him as our main attacking weapon.

He always did pretty well against Saints!
I still laugh when I think of the Saints fan nearly having a thrombosis after Sam scored underneath the sticks at Windy City and was celebrating running backwards.
I genuinely think that he is a great player one of the best players I've seen in a Wigan shirt. The only other players in my time who gave so much excitement because of their brilliant unpredictability were Hanley and Robinson. He's in pretty decent company.
He is a natural and I just hope that his recent injury hasn't blunted his fantastic pace.
I can't wait to see him again in the C&W hoops.
Aussies are just whinging tarts when it comes to Brits and would take any comments on any Brit with a pon full of salt.

Yet Burgess, Ellis, Morley and Graham are seen as some of the most successful NRL signings - so that doesn't stack up.

Also, going further back, Schofield, Hanley, Offiah, Malcolm Riley (as a player and coach) and Stevo are just a few names that are held in high esteem by the Aussies - I really don't see how anyone can blame their thoughts on Tomkins on 'Pom bashing' - he was a monumental waste of money for the Warriors (for lots of different reasons - not all his fault) - he simply didn't perform to anywhere near his salary value!

If you don't think Aussies are perennial whingers you must be an Aussie or smoke something particularly strong.
The Aussies couldn't give a shoite about Brits. Ask any Aussie regardless of age their top ten players of all time and very few would have a Brit in there. It's just in their DNA.
The first 4 you list are forwards which isn't a surprise. They love big daft forwards.
Offiah!! Aussies think wingers are a luxury. He wouldn't have got a game in most NRL teams.
Am I biased against Aussies? You bet I am.

I'd leave it. The guy's enjoying this boringly repetitive thread way too much to be a serious contributor.

You mean the Offish who did get games at the Roosters? Who scored a hatful of tries in a short stint and was generally accepted as one if the best wingers in the world... Or more recently, how about Brian Carney - voted Dally M winger of the year in his 1 season at Newcastle... Yeah they really hate Poms, and only like our big daft forwards....

Name a current player in the same bracket of expectation/salary that is more deserving of the 'worst signing' tag? You'll struggle.... He was signed as one o the top earners in the NRL and provided nothing like value for the salary and therefor expectation if him (not all his fault granted). nothing to do with Pom-bias, just pure value for money economics.

Another view of Tomkins less than successful time in the NRL, might suggest that the blame lies with the NZ Warriors. Wigan understood his strengths and weaknesses and structured their style of play to use him to best effect. The NZ Warriors maybe splashed the cash without taking that into account, with perhaps predictably disappointing results. If his injuries haven't blunted his pace, I'm sure he will slot back into the Wigan team and pick up where he left off. Still wouldn't take him over Hardaker mind you

What about Anthony Watmough for Parramatta? What about Ben Barba for Brisbane and Cronulla? Tomkins is never in a million years the worst signing, at the end of season 1 he was being talked about being a success after a slow start, the second he wanted to leave he became the biggest flop ever.

Was he a roaring success - probably not, was he a massive flop - probably not, he was a decent signing playing in a poor side. The article calls his 48% win percentage. Very similar to Shaun Johnson, is he a flop also?

Ben Barba is a great shout!

Watmough, whilst on fied didn't earn his crust, Parramatta wanted alot off field in terms of culture from him, so he has repaid some in that way, but yes, he's not been worth the money he's being paid either.

Adam Blair and Braith Anasta both for Wests Tigers were pretty bad.

Interestingly, i read a thread with this title on the Leeds board. Many posters there thought the judgement of worst signing harsh, but that Sam had not been good value for money, with which i would probably agree.... The people who said he was out and out crap, were the usual suspects... They really ought to get a life, saddo's.

If you don't bother to go to the game when you live in the locality then you are not really a fan and therefore your views are invalid. It's simple.
