To expect Lenagan to be stumping up big transfer fees is unrealistic.
Err...why? If a player is available but under contract clubs will invite offers and will want a fee. I am pretty sure fees have been paid for players moving to other clubs pre this season. Why is it unrealistic to expect our multi-millionaire owner to stump up some cash for a transfer fee?

And?

Of course he is but none of this has anything to do with your previous reply does it
What we as fans want to see is IL not being a cheapskate when it comes to fees but why you feel it is important (which I assume you do) IL does not pay a high fee for a player I don't really understand.
If it came out of his pocket it would not matter if he paid £5 or £500,000.
Unfortunately I believe any fee paid for a player will be paid by the Wigan club and not come out of IL's pocket as he strives to run the club solely as a self financing business. The consequence of this is we are far more likely to be outbid on transfer fees than we once were. This is, IMO, a problem.
This is a sports club not a business and while on a day to day basis it should not need a subsidy from IL to survive when a top class player becomes available for a transfer fee a cash injection from IL so we can bid for the player is what is required IMO. I get the impression that at the moment as soon as a fee is mentioned we walk away as the club (as opposed to IL) is not sitting on a big positive bank balance.
