That was just.... weak. First half some soft defence put us under the pump, second half with all those sets the attack was both predictable but profligate. We had more than enough opportunity to go win that.
Shorrocks needs a massive pat on the back and thank you for his efforts the last few weeks, and then be told it's back to competing in the backrow and he's only a 6 in extreme emergency. Tonight seemed a game too far with that sticking plaster. Not that others around him in key positions didn't have a bit of a 'mare either with some of the passing handling and decisions.

Obviously we should have won that game based on our dominance of possession and territory in the second half but better Wigan teams than that have come more badly unstuck than that at Hull over the years. At 12-0 down and the way the two sides were playing I thought we were in for a pasting. In those conditions with seven players who would have been in the 17 out, I am not disheartened by the effort shown and the relentlessness with which we wrestled ourselves on top we just lacked any creative spark to find a winner, If Hampshire or Cust had been ready to play this week, I imagine we would have scored the try we needed. Not despondent, hopefully flagged up we need to magic up an experienced forward from somewhere and get Hampshire / Cust back at 6 for Leeds
In tight moments, it needs someone like O’Neill to not try and pick out Powell on a line ball where he’s more bothered about getting smashed. Havard must have been shot after last week with how much he played tonight and then you have Byrne who had one of his poorer games again. The difference between his best and worst is too big for us to have him as a prop doing major minutes.

Poor organisation - our halves were all over the place (Smith's worst game for a long time , same thing over and over again to zero effect - turn pass inside or high kick), Powell and O'Neil on at the same time does not work, forwards were ineffective - somebody tell KPP he should be moving when he gets the ball - too often standing still when he gets it, that is where Isa was missed he runs on to the ball and gets the defense going backwards.
We didn't deserve to win as we created nothing in the second half despite all the possesion in the Hull half, never really looked like scoring - too much one out single charges going nowhere, we did not pull the Hull defense around at all. Nobody seemed to be leading the team in any way.
When did the rule about the tackle change so that defenders can hold the player down for what seemed like 20 secs at a time?

hard I suppose when hes on his own, the shorrocks experiment was always going to fail sooner or later, Hampshire should of played its as simple as that, as for farrell he should have worn a hull jersey, he stifled our left side more than they did, terrible display

From what I’ve seen of Farrell this year I think it’s the last one we can rely on him as a focal point in the back row. I feel sorry for Wardle, he may as well buy a season ticket and sit in the stands for the amount of quality ball he gets.

Firstly well done Hull. They defended great with a lot of spirit and desire.
As I said it was lined up for a banana skin tonight. Made worse by the heavens opening up after we were down 14-0
Was pleased we fought our way back into the game from and dominated the final 35 mins but just that last bit of execution was difficult.
We are so good in the grind this year and we were tonight.
Every side loses the odd game so I’m not losing sleep over it.
Takeaways going forward are -
1) I’m not bagging Shorrocks one bit, he’s a young forward playing half back and he’s done fine but obviously tonight was bad. He probably doesn’t want to play there either. Rocky to 6 next week and maybe Cust there the week after then eventually Field.
2) Think we saw tonight why Peet prefers Field at full back over french. Field is alot fitter and French looked very fatigued when we needed him to pop up with magic to get us over the line.
We’ll be fine once we have a half back at half and open up both sides of the field.

Before we decide to call for the end of players Wigan careers and say Peet has been "out coached" - stop and realise that a fat perma-tanned g!mp in purple literally gave them 14 points and 40 mins of calls.
We'll bounce back (very rare we lose two on the bounce) so onto the next one and I'm sure karma will catch up with the ref.
Undoubtedly however (& I've said this since before the season started) we need to make a mid season signing. Freshen it up, change what teams can expect from us etc.

On the plus side I thought we did well to fight our way back in the game after a dreadful start. We worked very hard in the second half and dominated territory but no cutting edge. Havard, Thornley and Miski were strong.
But no intensity in the opening half hour with some really slack stuff. Shorrocks had a bit of a shocker but we've probably been pushing our luck with him at 6. Powell is a painfully limited hooker at times. Farrell looks off the pace. Mago simply not good enough atm.
