He only played the ball 3 times in the whole game, shows how much is was getting the rest of the team around the pitch.

He isnt that type of player, we have TL to do that.

Im sure I remember in the world cup there was a mention of that fact that Darren Lockyer got tackled for the first time on something like the 60th minute of that game. I dont think its absolutley nessassary for all halfbacks to take on the line as long as they are good enough at organising and distributing

Bang on! How many times was Smithy actually tackled with ball in hand on Saturday? I only remember once in the 2nd half.. How it should be, Great!

A purple patch inspired on his home ground by man of the match WIGAN CAPTAIN Sean O’Loughlin produced three tries in an eight-minute spell just before half-time, and the GB Lions added two more after the break to maintain Smith’s 100 per cent record as Great Britain
coach.

Sat 27th April 2002 St Helens 12 Wigan 21 Edinburgh - Sat 4th May 2002 Celtic 2 Rangers 3 Glasgow (Carlsberg dont do weeks, but if they did.....)

He certainly cant be classed as greedy if thats the case :)

I think some people on here expect way too much and dont realise that there doing it. If he ran at the line more he wouldnt create as many passes/kicks/instructions for other players and it would be heading back towards "driving up the middle rugby"
IMO Smith is a great example of a halfback (when on form), the fact he doesnt get tackled shows hes always looking for alternatives and only takes on the line when he thinks thats best, rather than when he craves some glory trying to get tries all the time.

I dont know about other people but a Halfback with should have more assists than tries to his name.
