A. I didn't lock it, it was another moderator.

B. Keith Mason wasn't 'let off'. He was found guilty and was fined £300.

Sorted, done, end of!

Neither have been anywhere near realistic in the last 2/3 years.

We are no closer to the top 2 and have infact been caught by the rest of the league.

These are not the only options.

That wasn't the question though. The question was (and is) which of the two would you prefer.

It's not a trick question. I am interested to hear which of those two specific situations you would prefer.

The Communist Cap - dragging down success and aspiration to the levels of those who cba.

1. Wigan play "well" all year, tail off a bit to the end, and finish 4th.

2. Wigan play sporadic all year, hit form come the playoffs and make the Grand final.

Not sure if you're inviting others to chip in but I'd go for Option 1 on the grounds that it would give us a solid base for the following season where we could (hopefully) get a bit of tin for something.

I, personally, believe that sort of foundation is what makes a team of the current class of Leeds. Sporadic play is what we have had since 2007, sadly rather than seeing a 50%+ pleasing wins or an upward trend, we're seeing a regression.

Conroy - Being a Latics fan i'm already immune to watching sh*te.

Sally Cinnamon - Treat the Saints forum as you would if you met a girl from St Helens. Best policy would be to avoid altogether but if you absolutely can't resist temptation then take every possible precaution.

Leeds and Tony Smith were slated by some of the more knee jerky Leeds fans throughout 2007 for some disjointed performances but ultimately finished 2nd on the ladder. They then mullered Saints at Old Trafford.

They did not play sporadically. No team that finishing 2nd does so what Leeds did is not option 2.

It is "option 3" which is they played well over the whole year, won most of their league games which meant a good starting position in the play offs from which they went onto the win the GF. It might dawn on people one day this is what you need to do to win the thing not scrape into the playoffs.

If you play sporadically all year you will not end up 2nd in the table but much further down such as 4th or lower and no one has won it from 4th!

Option 2 is completely unrealistic.

FWIW Option 1 is also unrealistic because finishing 4th as we have seen with Wigan in 2007 and 2008 means losing 50% or more of your games. That does not equate to playing well and tailing off!

Quote:As long as you qualify for the playoffs it doesnt matter how many you've lost up until then.

It does because if you think it is likely a team will win it from 4th or lower you are IMO dreaming. Bradford were even lucky with injuries to Leeds and Saints when they won it from 3rd. You need to finish in the top 2 to have a realistic chance of a GF appearance.

Still an advantage to be 1 or 2 but this season I think that 4 is the more critical cut-off in that 1-4 all get a second chance if they lose their first game. In my opinion, the new system makes it slightly more likely that someone will win the GF from 3rd or 4th.
