And I thought it was just me............
I don't think this thread was ever about wanting to win every game, despite some of the trolls who have appeared on it.
I watched Wigan from 1965, and there were some desperate times in the 70's and early 80's. I remember crowds of around 4000 for home games, but we never seemed as lethargic and bland as now( even in the relegation year, though that could be rose tinted glasses). We always had one or two players worth watching (I remember George Fairbairn practically carrying the club single handed, and it was always worth watching those efforts).
But now it's boring Rugby by a team of whom many don't appear to care. The whole club seems to be subject to a malaise.
I confess to not making the 400+ miles round trip this season, so that may make me a category Z fan, whose opinions are worthless, but after all this time I am losing interest.
Things before have never been so bad that we receive pity from Saints fans; I think they're bored with our second rate efforts too.

Every team i have seen this year (not seen hull or salford) live, have improved from last year, every team that is bar 1!!!
I am not a sack the coach type, but last night hudds did nothing more than 5 drives and a kick, play hard, and lie on in the tackle!
Which begs the question, exactly what are we doing in training in the week? Loosing to Leeds, was fair enough as they were outstanding!
Perhaps it is time to change something, as we clearly are going backwards each year, its not the start of the season anymore, we are 8 games in and we are shocking. A third tier team at best! And it doesnt even break my heart anymore!
Ha Ha, no wine in Wigan this year the grapes too sour!!!, the league table don't lie and we not doing bad for a team of 5 drives and a kick, with lying on for our defence.
Get over yourself and GET USED TO IT!!! Huddersfield are back as it should be for the birthplace of the game
If i was to marry, i dont know if i ought to, if i would, if i should , i'd marry a Prop's daughter, she'd go down, i'd go down, we'd all go down together, we'd be alright in the middle of the night going down together!!

You are disillusioned if you think you are playing good RL. Us Wigan fans are good judges since we have been doing the whole 5 drives and a kick for 3 seasons or more.

Having grown up myself on watching Wigan clean up in the 80's & 90's whilst shaking with exitement at the thought of Saints even getting to a cup final, and then watching us lose countless, The current situation still feels a little bizarre. Yes, of couse the likes of the 75-0 made up for some previous drubbings, but if RL is to prosper then you need a good Wigan side and at the moment from 1-17, You just don't cut the mustard.
I'm genuinely not having a go when I say I would honestly not want Saints paying out for one Wigan player in the starting 13 at the mo, with the possible exception of Hock - and having watched on enviously for years previously at the superstars in the cherry and White - I have to question the players brought into the club against the impact the likes of Lyon, Gidley, Webb etc have had on Super league in recent years. I understand the lack of confidence in Noble and certainly its justified, but when I look at the team he's putting out on the paddock I don't think its strikes fear into any team in Super League and that's a problem that's built up over many an off season.
Having bled so many youngsters and local lads in your side, I'm surprised that the effort in wearing the shirt appears to be lacking, which again suggests that when push comes to shove they just aren't quite good enough.
Rugby League needs a good Wigan side, a strong Bradford outfit, Wire attempting to challenge, Hull continuing to track the top two.
In a couple of weeks time you may well prove me wrong and, like a few seasons back, beat Saints all ends up with an underacheiving side. But if Saints win by 50, yes I'll bask in the glory for a minute or two but then think - what was the point of that game? It should be the biggest, greatest, hardest fought match in sport for goodness sake.
It may sound daft from a Saints speccy but I honestly hope Nobby gets shut of the underachievers (that are clearly picking up enough wedge to push the salary cap) and replaces them with shrewd buys that will bring you back to being a top four side. I want Saints to win all, of course, but there was nothing like the pre-match tension of a trip to Central Park/early JJB match and I'd like a little bit of that back please!
cracking post and i too want the proper derbies back, but cant believe you in respect of the team! IMO we DO have the team to challenge, the coaching and fitness at the club however is severely lacking and this is letting us down....compare the starting line ups of wigan and saints and i think that you do have players in some positions who are better than ours, however this can also be said of a number of ours who are better than your players in their respective positions IMO. The two teams generally on paper should be evenly matched and quite well balanced, which just goes to show how poor our current coaching and fitness set ups must be, and for how well you play collectively as a team!!!
Looking at the current preferred starting line ups;
1/ Richards >>> Wellens
2/ Meli = Roberts (maybe not on current form…but we all know how he can play and how he will when he settles in)
3/ Gidley >>> Goulding
4/ Carmont > Gilmour
5/ Ainscough = Gardner
(IMO Ainscough is better than Gardner....but granted gardner is a seasoned player, so we'll stick with equal to)
6/ Pryce > S Tompkins (going with popular opinion here....IMO tompkins is and will prove himeslf a better player than average one trick show and go leon...plus with any luck leon may be facing an enforced absence from the game shortly at her majesty's pleasure ..but pretty much the same argument as above)
7/ Long (pos in his day better than...but now) = Leuleui
8/ Cayless > Fielden
9/ Cunningham > Riddell
10/ Graham > Prescott
11/ Wilkin > Hock (ill get slated again on here for saying this, but IMO wilkin is better than liability hock)
12/ J Tomkins > Flannery
13/ O'Loughlin > Clough
So by my reckoning we have 1 player in the starting 17 who is vastly better than your player in the same position, while you have 2. We have 5 better players in their relative positions than you, and you have 6 on us. And I would say 3 players are probably like for like in their relative positions. On paper the two teams are well matched IMO…and it is a mixture of coaching, fitness and form which is letting us down. If we sorted that out I really believe we have a team to challenge you and leeds, but will it be sorted out ?!?!

You don't watch us every week, 1 off day is not gonna change the rugby we are playing, sign of a good team to play poor and still win!! and as I said the league dont lie, anyway I am sure if you ask, the majority of Huddersfield fans will be more than happy with the way the club are playing.
You Wigan fans need to realise that the days of Shaun Edwards and Martin Offiah are long gone.
Enjoy the rest of your season but give credit to teams where credit is due

Maybe they are, but in every other set up of the club we are clearly at top 4 if not 2 club. I do not expect a reincarnation of the 80s and 90s, tbh they were almost 'freak' like times and that dominance will not be seen again in world sport never mind RL IMO.
I dont expect to be winning everything, but as a top club i expect to be in as many finals as teams like saints and leeds and actually win something or at least get to a final at least every 2-3 years!! You may think im arrogent for saying this but wigan rl is one of the biggest names and teams in world rugby.....we should not be beat at home by castleford, wakey and huddersfield over a period of 5 years....never mind in 3 our of 4 home games!!
Suppose its a mixed result of poor coaching and the communist cap, which as said many times on here before, drags the game down to the level of those that cba!! Yeah sure....super league is getting better!!

Surely a more competetive league is a good thing with games going either way every week, mind you if you losing games you may not share the same view, Huddersfield, Cas and Wakefield have all deserved their wins at the JJB.
I could come out with same argument that Huddersfield should be in top 4 as birthplace of rugby league. Thing is it doesn't work like that you have to earn the right to be there and we are there on merit at the moment.
It's a long season but we are enjoying what we have seen so far down at the Giants.
We are just gonna have to agree to disagree on this one

dont get me wrong im glad huddersfield are doing well, and hopefully your crowds will continue to grow.....as the birthplace of RL you are right in that we need huddersfield to be strong....and i hope you are the next club to break the 10k average barrier and break into the top 6.
However, what i am saying is that however well you are doing at the moment we ARE a top 4 club and should not be losing to teams full of poor to average players such as david hodgeson, martin aspinwall, luke robinson, olli wilkis, jason netheringotn etc. The reason we are is twofold and due to both our poor coaching and the salary cap.
What i want is a strong super league where teams like huddersfield are as strong as the traditional big clubs such as wigan, leeds, bradford, stains, & hull etc. but i want this to be acheived by teams like huddersfield rasing their standards, not by artificially reducing the standards at the top clubs so we get a dilluted poor competition. look at th bradford side this yearto see how that once great club has been crippled....they're full of average players that once played for wakefield / london etc.
