Heres a comparison with a man i'd regard as Saints 4th prop(even though he starts the games i'd say he's about 4th in the quality ranking) -
I'd say Griffin comes out on top overall considering he's played 4 less games.
He probably is better than our 4th or 5th choice prop, but is that what wigan have come to aspire to?

In reality though, we should have one of Prescott or O'Carroll as fourth choice prop. Not some 30 year old.
I'd rather keep Coley aswell tbh especially considering he could play backrow if needed but i don't think Griffin would be a nightmare signing if it was only made for him to be a squad player.
If he were signed as our only prop signing for 2010 we're screwed.

My point exactly, you have plenty of props of his quality, but they are younger and are at least passionate about wigan

Do we need a squad player at prop forward though when we're looking for next season at:
Fielden
Paleaaesina
New Prop (at least we fecking better be!)
Prescott
O'Carroll
Davies

No not in the slightest but what i'm trying to say is that every signing a club makes can't be 'world class' if they're aiming at building a competative 'squad'.
He isn't world class by any means but if he's cheap and he puts pressure on Fielden, Feka and Co and we can afford it then why not.
Like i say they if he got signed to be a front line player for us we're well and truely on the scrap heap...................we'll have fallen further then i ever imagined.

Sad really.
About time there was a take over of the club by the dedicated.
I maintain that the wigan name is, as shown with Barrett's signing still big enough to get the very cream from Oz, i just dont think your current chairman is prepared to pay for it

I would agree.
Time to bring back Mo. Or a new takeover from the fans?

TBH we should be looking at two props next season
Fielden
Feka
New Prop (Aussie/NZ)
New Prop (SL Based)
IMO
Prescott needs the loan deal
O'Carroll will have to prove himself to win a first team spot back after a while out, mid season he'll be back in.
Davies isn't yet ready

Our last chairman paid too much for those players though and got us in trouble year after year.
I always said when Lenagan took over that we may have to see a couple of years worth of bargain bin signings if we wanted to stop players and their agents taking us for a ride after that. We've been seen for a long while now as a meal ticket for players and that had to stop, i presume that now were not viewed as being that meal ticket anymore, especially given your last comment.
Hopefully from now on though he'll gradually start to raise the bar in terms of quality and salaries of the players he brings in, within reason, so that we can start getting a better of quality of player in again but without paying over the odds for them.
I think the Gleeson signing was the first sign that his transfer policy may be on the change.
