If he had a brain he would be a dangerous player granted....but lets be honest, he doesnt!!! there is no sort of risk assessment in his play.
Anyone can run hard at the line and throw the ball anywhere ...sometimes it will make you look class / others make you look a fool (look at danny sculthorpe...a player very like hock in that respect/ except his ball retention was probably slightly better and he wasnt a penalty machine).
IMO hock if anything just about breaks even on his mistakes which gift trys to scoring ratio...and as such what is the point?!?! whatever he does well he negates by throwing silly balls, knocking on, running in with loose carries and giving away penalties!! yet wigan fans, in our despiration to find our next W class player- cling on to what he does well while all to often forget his shortcomings!!
The only way you will ever get a world class gaz hock is by a successful brain transplant!!! he simply lacks intelligence to play RL
But his general performances have lead to international selection for a couple of years.
Who's wrong?
You
Or
All Wigan coaches who have selected him, the international coaches that have selected him and the majority of Wigan supporters?

In terms of wigan coaches who have selected him....they have done so on the back of the fact that there has been nothing better in the squad of the time.....IMO there is now, and I would sooner give players like mossop and farrell a run, and stop us from starting the majority of our games behind the eight ball because of hock's often ludicrous choices.
I wouldnt suggest anyone is wrong....just there must be a lot of rose tinted specs hanging around wigan (but then we have known this for years!!!)
Think were gonna have to agree to disagree on this one mate. IMO Hock is nothing but a glorified labotomised Danny Sculthorpe and always will be.

So Wigan coaches have been forced to play him, but during those performances he has co-incedentally gained selection to represent his country.
C'mon?
He can fustrate me as much as anyone and those around me on Friday will have heard me calling for him to be subbed, but his general attributes and performances for Wigan are very good. He's a very good player and a key member of our Wigan and international squad.

andyed-wiganrl wrote:Not as stupid as Gaz Hock....or anybody who thinks he is actually good.....best second rower in the game some wigan fans would have you believe!!!! hes about as good as players like ellis / wilkin's left testicle....come to think of it....if his brain was as big as a testicle he might be half decent!!!
Hes a liability in the side....a guarenteed 2-3 penalties and knock ons per game, doesnt know when to and when not to offload, often to the teams detriment, and is the biggest cause for our bad performances as you'll see.
Ship him in the reserves and stick mossop on!!
What is it with left testicle's on this site?
Your opinion of Hock is in the minority
On his day there is no-one better
He is also young and a WIGAN lad
There isn't one side in super leaue that wouldn't take Hock and tbh our pack becomes a lot less intimidating when he isn't in it
He even requires special attention from teams when we play them (Leeds have picked him out as a threat everytime we play them) He was also unlucky with a few calls that went against him on Friday and if the obstruction wouldn't of gone against him and he would of got some penalty's instead of those 'knock ons' we would have been praising him for another good performance

That's not entirely accurate. Some of his offloads are too high risk, many are not.
andyed-wiganrl wrote:...whatever he does well he negates by ... knocking on...giving away penalties!!
That comment would be fair enough two seasons ago, even possibly last year, but he has worked hard on his discipline and now gives very few penalties away. Lockers has given more away this year. I was annoyed when he was adjudged to have knocked on several times against Leeds, but when I got home and watched it on TV, it was obvious that the Leeds players had been coached to reef the ball out against Hock whenever possible, knowing the ref would suspect it was a knock on based on experience. The ref even got it right on one occasion.

He might not be the sharpest tool in the box, but so what? Some of the greatest natural sporting talents haven't been - Paul Gascoigne, Prince Naseem - it accounts for little really.

knock on loose carry...you say tomato i say tOmatowe ?!?
oh and the bit in bold....you might have destroyed your own argument.....if hock was sooo good, why on earth would a referee of all people, think he had knocked on 'due to experience'. for me this shows that even you think deep down hes not up to scrach?!?!!

no but all of the above may have at least have some intelligence.....you dont have to be einstien to play RL but you need to have something in your head in order to make the correct decisions on a rugby field. Hock is that thick he is brain dead...he cant diferentiate between when is a good time to throw a ball out and not to ffs.
