Watch it again, you might want to look at how magically Welsby isn’t hurt anymore as soon as the ref blows his whistle and looks up to see his side being awarded a penalty. No wonder Ligi Sao (?) was furious with Welbsy.

FWIW, Gales red card and subsequent ban was spot on, but the sin bin of Welbsy was footballer-like.

I am not saying he didn't play on it a little bit afterwards to ensure he got the penalty but I am certain his initial intention was to protect himself. I've been in that position where you're one standing leg is vulnerable and you panic and take the weight off it, I'd have done the same.

I don't think he intended to land head first but when he did, he made the most of it.

I think both players are at fault there. Lifting a leg like that should be an automatic penalty given before the player goes to ground as it creates a much greater risk of a number of injuries.

Welsby clearly contributed to the way he landed which in itself I don’t have a problem with, the feigning injury i do have a problem with and should be punished.

There’s pretty strong evidence to suggest it is coached at St Helens. None greater than Coote who would go down four or five times a game last year yet seemingly doesn’t get those knocks now he is playing for KR.

He's only played 1 game and has been injured since. Give him chance

See, that I do not have a problem with. It is nigh on impossible for us to speculate on Welsby's intentions in that split second of being tackled by Wynne. Both players are at fault. However, the major issue is the playacting. Essentially, if Welsby got up straight away it would have been a handover but what happened was he got a fellow professional sent to the sin bin. Cracking player is Welsby and he may be suffering from what Sam Tomkins did in his early days - an increased spotlight on his every move (good and bad!).

Most honest team in SL for years suddenly develop some gamesmanship and fans of a team renowned for cheating and thuggery are fumin

lol. Hilarious

You are all more incensed at Welsby than you were with Isa last season lmao. I guess the takeaway is, its alright to act like a grub, as long as its in a wigan shirt.

Got it

I genuinely think it's a generational thing, not a Saints thing. Unfortunately 80-90% of young lads coming through are pampered wetwipes who have had their backsides wiped for them all their lives. I see it at amateur level where I coach; I often say to our lads they wouldn't have lasted 5 minutes 10-15 years ago.

I think this type of stuff with staying down, playacting, feigning injury is a symptom of the way young lads are nowadays. It's not exclusive to Saints at all but it's obviously picked up more on here when it's Saints.
