What do you mean by "under the financial situation the club is in "? IL said on the radio we pay to the cap limit so it's all about who gets what slice of that pie isn't it?
As to it being time for Goulding and Pryce to show if they can or can't next year, what if they can't? With George gone we would be a bit stuffed.
The ideal would have been George for one more season but somehow we have ended up with a situation where it seems its two years or none.Dave
It seems that's exactly what the choice is two years or none, and I would say that the club and most of the fans are in agreement that a one year deal would be best but that's now not going to happen.
It's a case of weighing up the pro's and con's of both a 2 year deal or no deal and deciding which is best for Wigan, and I say no deal we shouldn't be held ransom by a player particularly when we have younger guy's who will soon be requiring first team rugby.
Wigan vs Leeds finals aggregate score.
Wigan 178 - 64 Leeds
Wigan wins - 6 Leeds wins - 0

there is no chance in hell that we would sell him to anybody - unless he publicly came out and put in a transfer request. Even then, you would be looking at close to £1m to force the reluctant sale.
It would be complete commercial insanity for Saints to even consider it for a second, never mind go through with it.

lengthy article in league weekly about Noble's shopping list. Apparantly celtic have as good as signed matt utai, Carmont has been offered a two year deal by them, Noble wants Feka and also Reardon. as well as Winterstein, Thackray and i think Matty Lee. Will be intersting to see who they get and which of our lot follow him down there. No mention in the article of fielden going !!! I think im more nervous about who we'll lose rather than who we'll sign ( if anybody )

We also have two reserve lads in Thornley & Marsh who may deserve and get a run out next season. If Carmont were to go then either Goulding or Pryce would compete for the 4 shirt. The two reserve lads would compete for the first run out one of them may get. The club may well feel that a one year deal for George is generous under the financial situation the club is in and also the amount available under the salary cap given that some positions are desperate for strengthening. As good as George is perhaps it's time Goulding and Pryce were made to show what they can or can't do next year. If they can they stay, if they can't then they could well depart.
Do people really need to see more of Goulding and Pryce to be able to make a judgement on whether they can cut it?
If that's the alternative I'll fund a two year contract for Carmont out of my own pocket.

i would like to see how he goes under the mcguire regime. if we can get him back to the size when he first arrived we could have the best impact prop in the game on our hands

Both need 1 more year before we can categorically see if they have a future at Wigan which is exactly why a 1 yea deal is perfect for us with regard Carmont.
Unofficially the most boring poster on Cherry and White.
Goulding and Pryce would have one more season to show if they can do it. If neither can then another player will be brought in I'm sure. If they can both hack it then the club is in a very good position indeed.
As for Graham, would he pass IL's due dilligence test?
He might leave Saints. Graham will not want to go but he could be sold!
That would be a real test, Graham says he'll see his contract out and Saints need to sell.
