There are enough attacking threats to post points. I’m sure we’ll get one hell of a game there early in the season.

I don’t like Mellor at 6 and I think their outside backs are poor with the exception of Leutele.

9, 13, 7 & 1 they are good but Hardaker is the risk in there.

Secondrow not particularly strong going off form and I’m not sure it they have much depth at prop.

St Helen’s will finish top easily as no other team comes close in terms of first 13 and squad depth. Positions 2 and below are harder to call as every other team, whilst being miles behind St Helens are all just all the same talent and squad depth wise.

MattyB wrote:Leigh don't necessarily need a better squad to aim higher up the table this season, they just need one to be good enough to avoid the drop. By doing this they can then strengthen for 2024, they will then be likely to be much stronger than next seasons newly promoted team (Fev for instance). The more seasons they stay in the league the more chance they have of strengthening and aiming higher than other low/mid table teams.

Spot on Matty. :thumb:

Mellor will predominantly still play on the right, & Lam on the left.

We do have a good pack but if Amone gets a ban, it will affect us.

I agree we are fragile in depth. Any Injuries or bans will hit us hard.

Why is Hardaker a risk?

If Hardaker can keep his head down, stay out of trouble and manage the jet lag each day, he’ll be an asset. The spine is pretty good as you point out, with good threat from Hardaker, Lam and Ipape and Asiata is a good player. One thing that I think will help Leigh is that Derek won’t have any problems in dumping a couple of overseas lads as and when better players come along mid season and they’ll also look at British options that open up, so I could see them starting pretty well and if they do fade, I think we’ll see some movement in to the club to help boost them.

I agree, but sadly it seems to be something he struggles with.

He’s hardly been out of the pub with a few of his ex Leeds teammates during the offseason.

It’s the levels of disruption his behaviour can cause that is the issue.
