It's looking so good that a deal with Premier Sports and The RFL Championship seem close! no word about how much payment is involved, but the coverage will help clubs with advertising, we could really benefit at Plough Lane with the electronic advertising! and a good looking ground and pitch.
Sky seem not willing to go over £25 million for Super League, compared to currently £40 million per season, quite a drop, so no money seems to be forthcoming for lower league clubs, it will be a cut for Super League Clubs.
Our League has filled a void, but if that was to be retained, quality would need to improve all round, they seem happy with the money it has brought in
Championship rights have never been worth a bean. Since the old Northern Ford Premiership clubs pulled out of the original Sky TV contract not one broadcaster has ever paid a penny for the lower league rights - they take them for free but pay for the broadcast costs.
The RFL would be better off putting a little bit of money into OurLeague to raise the standard a little and then show Championship, L1, women's, Academy matches on there. I'd pay £100 a year for that lot, but I would never pay £10 a month to Premier Sports to watch 1 or 2 Championship games and a load of European soccer and monster trucks.
Build up OurLeague, develop our own content, look to increase revenue in a way we as a sport can exploit. Much better than being stuck on a 3rd rate subscription channel that very few people know exists, even more so in an era when viewers are moving away from that model and towards specific content providers.
