Talk about following the NRL path of two referees on the pitch!
I personally don’t watch much NRL as what I do watch tends to be pretty boring, I much prefer the product the UK game serves up!
But for those that do watch it, has the second ref actually improved the game? Is it a better game to watch since it was brought in?
Problem we have in SL should they bring it in, is not enough grade 1 Refs to cover the games we have! So the standard at championship NL1 level drops as less experienced guys/girls have to step up.

NRL refs still make mistakes, and calls players and fans don’t like, so why do it in our game? Are we trying to sanitise the game too much.

This all depends on what the objective of having two referees is. In NRL, I understand at least in part it was to reduce disruption of video referrals but my concern has always been lack of consistency of refereeing decisions. When a single ref can't be consistent then I am not convinced having two interpretations will improve matters.

The second ref is being introduced to get rid of teams messing about slowing down the ruck which IMO is the only thing that lets our game down, so is well worth having just for that. Fans constantly moan about officials getting it wrong with the introduction of the second ref, they have less chance of making a wrong call!

The TJ nearest the PTB should be watching and managing the ruck whilst talking to the ref. Thats where they should look to improve the game. Since Ganson has taken over ref controller refs have been obsessed with getting into place and watching the 10 metres rule at the expense of the ruck.

TJ is not managing the ruck, just passes info to the ref.
Not convinced it needs 2 refs though! Lots of complaints from fans are unfounded though, partly because they can’t hear or choose not to hear the refs tackle call! It’s funny listening to someone screaming at the ref about a slow ptb after a surrender call.
Think one question is do we want the game to be sanitised too much? It’s RL not NFL

Wq, you don’t want to contribute to the thread I assume!
So how can the TJ manage the ruck, he does not have a whistle. The TJ nearest the ruck does watch the ruck, that is his role during the tackle, managing has to be the ref.
My question is not what happens but in the NRL has it actually improved the game? Mistakes are still made, things still get missed!

As for should! When the tackle is in the middle of the pitch on a full size pitch even the best TJ will be 30mtrs away where ref is 12 to 15 at worse so makes it a bit hard to manage the ruck

So it should be an improvement if the person managing the ruck has a whistle and is closer to play?
Mistakes will always be made but if the current situation of the ref having to focus on all things is split between two refs in the future, logic suggests there should be less mistakes.

Fair point, the only fear I have is how far do you take it!? 3 refs 4 refs, look at every play on the tv.
My main question is has it actually improved the game in aus having 2
