I have been asked by the office staff at the club to let everyone know there will be a bucket collection on Sunday for victims of the fire. There will also be a minutes silence and the team will wear black arm bands. As this is a RFL game and the rules are laid down by the RFL proceeds cannot be paid back to the fund. The Australian Commissioner was due to attend the game but obviously as the day has now been appointed a National Mourning Day in Australia he will not be attending.

We need more info please

I think what the OP means is that ticket proceeds can't go towards the charity collection, hence the bucket idea. Could be wrong though.

That's the fairly obvious way I read it as well.

Thanks that is exactly what I meant - proceeds from the game cannot be paid back to the collection fund hence a bucket collection where the money can go to the fund.

Rugby League to pay its respects to the Australian fire victims

Players from Harlequins RL and Manly Sea Eagles will observe a minute’s silence and wear black arm bands this Sunday (22 February) to coincide with a national day of mourning in Australia for all the victims of the recent fires.

As part of their preparations for the Carnegie World Club Challenge match against Leeds Rhinos, Manly Sea Eagles will play Harlequins RL at the Twickenham Stoop in the first ever London Rugby League Challenge.

In addition to both teams paying their respects on Sunday, the RFL will be raising money for victims of the Australian fires by holding collections at the Carnegie World Club Challenge match at Elland Road on Sunday 1 March.

Sally Bolton, the RFL’s Events Director said: “Through the sport of Rugby League our two countries have a close relationship and a rivalry that is always friendly. We want to show that the Rugby League community here is thinking of them at this difficult time.”
