So why not make it be played after our Dewsbury game at Trailfinders. The RFL could have got behind it and promoted it hard. Done something positive for the game in London for a change.
We don’t know that the RFL didn’t want to get behind it, you are assuming Toronto would have been interested in playing it as a double header with us, or anyone else, how would the gate be split?

Whilst I think that the RFL are as much use as a chocolate Tea Spoon, they have tried many times to assist London Broncos and have always been rebuffed by the man at the helm......it isn't their job to help us and Toronto playing at the Skolars is as much to do with the Skolars being proactive as it is Toronto being homeless......I would love to hear stories of Jason inviting the Canadians to play home games at ours but you and I know that it never happened, whilst the Skolars have a track record of understanding marketing event games..........so yep, the RFL are useless, just not in this instance.
JESUS WEPT HOW MANY TIMES????? £20 a ticket and £15 on beer and merchandise.....so an away fan is worth £35. At best, 1,000 is the average away support split across 11 rounds and I am being really generous here, so Toronto, replacing say Wakefield will cost a SL club £35,000. The minimum turnover of a SL club is £4,000,000 so Toronto instead of Widnes is worth less than 1% of a SL clubs turnover.
There are many valid reasons for and against expansion into America, but "AWAY FANS" isn't one of them.
Bostwick wrote:Oh CMG, the suggestion was made by the club when it was first came up.
Suggestion? Jesus wept......the moment it became common knowledge to the clubs that Toronto wouldn't be playing "at home" we should have been on the blower to Manchester or wherever they are based and offered to host them......as it is, 1,542 witnessed the Wolfpack v Skolars last year....whilst we only managed 1,205 this year (and 758 in the cup last)....which of the two London outfits do you reckon is the better option for selling tickets? What odds on Toronto v Fax drawing a bigger gate than we do a few hours earlier v Dewsbury?....not that it'll matter to the bloke at the top, so long as he gets to watch "his" team and feel warm and fuzzy because he props us up?
Things like hosting double headers don't happen just because someone suggested it......they happen because people are prepared to step up and put in the hard work and hours to make them happen.....the Skolars get 1,000 for their pre-cc final jamboree each year......it's something they started and have stuck with it.......IIRC it started when we were Harlequins Rugby League playing at the Stoop.......3 grounds and a name change later, not to mention relegation from the top flight and we still think "suggestions" will pave the way
Here's the job description for Neil Reynolds at the club...
Quote:Covering all aspects of sponsorship acquisition and media coverage of the club including social media, website upkeep, video coverage and liaising with both broadcast and print press. Building relationships with sponsors from inception to activation ensuring their journey is beneficial to both parties On top of this I announce the matches and am also a qualified Sports Journalist.
...no mention of attracting fans to games......it would seem that the downright arrogance of Mr H knows no limits...he is still of the opinion that sticking posts in the ground and announcing KO times is enough when the evidence in front of him states that it clearly isn't......when he either dies or simply has had enough, we will plummet like a stone, passing the Skolars on the way down......

Maybe Toronto were not interested in a double header with us. Ever considered that ?
what's 33% of SFA? We had 2,156 ST holders in 2008........we have about 325 now...let's pat St Dave on the back some more
As for not interested......Toronto and their decision makers wouldn't now the difference between the Broncos and the Skolars, let alone point out their respective grounds on an A-2-Z.
Also, whilst the ownership of the Skolars DO have a clue how to run an event based business, our own lord and master doesn't....he's admitted as much but he still won't employ someone to do it......so we get the announcer from London Scottish in charge of sponsorship......genius

33% is better than 25% or 0 or a drop. See your looking backwards again dog, pointless, you can’t change the past. You talked about attracting fans and pick out one individual, on last year more fans have been attracted and the individual you picked out has done the job he is paid for, sponsorship income is up on last year. As for Toronto, that’s quite an assumption you make.

How do you know there wasn't communication about this and perhaps some idiots who are running up debts everywhere thought of themselves so highly they wanted more than half of the gate as it would be their game that was the main event?
Would you let someone who already owes you money throw a party in your house alongside yours but expect the lions share of the takings?
