Oh how we larfed...... ...the #1 issue with our sport is that we refuse to accept that we MUST learn from the other lot if we are to prosper. England losing to Ireland at Twickenham on St Patrick's day is a PR mans dream....played in a 2 week break from their Premiership, the final weekend of the 6 nations saw wales and France fight out a nail-biting draw, Italy almost turn over Scotland and Ireland grasp there 3rd Grand Slam ever....watched by 216,000 people in 3 capital cities and many millions on TV........but let's brush it off as a "distraction".....if you weren't aware that England were playing union at the weekend you're either an idiot or an idiot....... 66k is their average attendance for the 6 nations and their TV deal is worth £50,000,000 a year for 15 games in the UK alone...........let's larf some more.......christ on a bike, sometimes I am in awe at the stupidity of RL fans
England RL play NZ later this year......you reckon we'll average 66k a game or get anything like the TV audience that Italy v Scotland got at the weekend?.....Let's have another giggle shall we?
It's fine that you don't pay any heed to Union, but your "did they play" comment is crassness in the extreme!
JESUS WEPT HOW MANY TIMES????? £20 a ticket and £15 on beer and merchandise.....so an away fan is worth £35. At best, 1,000 is the average away support split across 11 rounds and I am being really generous here, so Toronto, replacing say Wakefield will cost a SL club £35,000. The minimum turnover of a SL club is £4,000,000 so Toronto instead of Widnes is worth less than 1% of a SL clubs turnover.
There are many valid reasons for and against expansion into America, but "AWAY FANS" isn't one of them.
Dog, please explain why me not knowing what was going on in a sport I have no interest in, make me an idiot? And why is it crass? Lots of Wendy ball was played in front of lots of fans in England as well, I have no interest in any of those games either. By the way “we must” who is we?

1. If you weren't aware of the game at TW2 towers then you're either deaf blind and dumb or just an idiot......of course you knew it was on, unless you don't watch TV, don't read newspapers, don't visit mainstream media websites and have no interest in the radio...... 2. Ask Andy if you want to now who "we" are
....as I say, your crass attitude to a sport that dwarfs our own is indicative of why we are so "niche"......football is King, Union may be the Queen but we're not even classified enough to be the court jester!

Who is Andy? By the way I am on the RFL payroll so technically does that make me part of the we? There were signs on m25 saying delays at twickenham at the weekend due to an event, but nope had no clue who was playing. Still not sure why that makes someone an idiot!
Bloke in the picture....... he's a pretty well known RL figure and his son plays Union for England
northernbloke wrote:By the way I am on the RFL payroll so technically does that make me part of the we?
Not sure, but if you are in the pay of the RFL and weren't aware that a Legend of the game was coaching the backs defensively of Ireland RU and his son was wearing 10 for England RU, then you're stealing a wage......ignorance is not a defense of IGNORANCE.
northernbloke wrote:There were signs on m25 saying delays at twickenham at the weekend due to an event, but nope had no clue who was playing.
Then you are either a hermit or an idiot....which is it?
northernbloke wrote:Still not sure why that makes someone an idiot!
....because you're denying awareness to feign disinterest.....it's really sad actually. You don't have to like something to acknowledge it exists.......there were 4 Premiership games, 2 FA cup games and countless other soccer matches on on Saturday, but none of them featured first on the news bulletins sport sections BBC/ITV even sky sports............you're inability to even acknowledge the game of union is EXACTLY why we are ignored as a chippy northern hobby..........and when you and your 500 or so northern mates have all shuffled of the coil, then "we" will be a club with no fans....."we" as in me by the way, other "cockneys" and the bloke in the pictures son, who has been to Broncos games apparently.......but wasn't noticed by the "myopic" clique.....because he plays Union...the bigger and better supported code!
Harlequins RU had 5k average gates the year we moved in.........last year we had less than 13k in total through the gate......they had 255,733 fans pay to watch their 11 home games, but you think "not knowing" there was a game on at Twickenham on Saturday is a valid response to that statistic.......we are exactly where we deserve to be in public consciousness........come on, let's "larf some more"......

Strewth you love to rant! So not noticing or caring that an England RU player was at a few broncos game makes you myopic and part of a clique? Interesting view. I think maybe you are just trying to cause an arguement!
I 100% apologize, but it really does get my goat when narrow minded bigots who are happy to point the finger at Narrow minded Union bigots feign disinterest......7,000,000+ people tuned into ITV on paddys day......that's nearly more people that we get tune in to sky all friggin' year, but apparently it's cool to poke fun at them....why is it that people like Pearson at Hull can claim that they want to compete with Union but I get agro for saying we should learn from them? As I say.....as we all get older then our fan base will shrink......we aren't attracting young fans to the game and attitudes like "was there a game on"? do us no favours.....

I point you to my other thread 100 girls playing today, looks like youth involvement to me. I stand by my comment, I have no interest in RU does not mean I knock the game or knock those that watch it, never have never will. I will however continue to promote my game in the ways I do where I can, I do that in person not by ranting on a forum.

You didn't knock it? How did you not know that the final weekend of the 6 nations was on? Do you own a television? Do you buy a newspaper of pick up a free one? Have you a radio in your car?
"WAS THERE A GAME ON"? If ever there was a statement that underlined your bigotry then that is it..........it was headline news 12,000 miles away in NZ and your faux denial is a reminder of why we don't attract new fans, let alone sponsors or media interest. I don't care if you like/dislike/have no care for union, but the simple fact of you posting "WAS THERE A GAME ON"? exposes you for what you are...narrow minded and bigoted!
