Quite a worry if they have already been told they can go elsewhere if they wish. Question is where did you get the information that players had received a letter?

The rule is if you don't have a contract for next year by 1 May then you are free to talk to other clubs. The club is being a responsible employer by reminding people of their rights. It doesn't mean they are not in negotiation with the players.

It could be something as simple as the club saying "Look, we don't know what league we're going to be in next season - and thanks to the RFL we don't even know what the leagues are going to look like - so as things stand we're waiting until October to make decisions on contracts".

...OR IT COULD BE SOMETHING ELSE......but at the risk of me being accused of Hughes Bashing for the sake of it or my wife being insulted, I'll go no further

JESUS WEPT :WALL: HOW MANY TIMES?????
£20 a ticket and £15 on beer and merchandise.....so an away fan is worth £35. At best, 1,000 is the average away support split across 11 rounds and I am being really generous here, so Toronto, replacing say Wakefield will cost a SL club £35,000.
The minimum turnover of a SL club is £4,000,000 so Toronto instead of Widnes is worth less than 1% of a SL clubs turnover.

There are many valid reasons for and against expansion into America, but "AWAY FANS" isn't one of them. :BEAT:

The difference between finishing 4th and 5th is £500,000. The points lost, which was partially due to the injuries to senior pro's has put us in a very precarious position. You can't give players speculative contracts .

...No, but you can let them play for the contracts! If we don't lose another game we're in the qualifiers. If we lose 1 more, then it'll be touch and go, but we have a pretty good +/- which should be 100+ over Leigh after the coming weekend.
If we can't offer guaranteed contracts, surely we can offer contracts dependent on where we finish.......it seems crass that we could be traveling to Barrow at the end of July and not know what our squad will look like for the following season until the final whistle?

If we fail to make the Qualifiers then I can see us as part-time from next season, because the frugal way in which we haven't offered contracts points to a dramatic reduction in funding either way....

Our warm up lacked energy and I thought we looked uninterested. All 14 off contract players had letters last week to say they are free to talk to other clubs (12 played yesterday)...hardly motivating.

You do know that any player in the last year of his contract at any club in the UK gets that letter don't you?

It means absolutely nothing. Clubs are duty bound to send it out.

Several of those players have new deals agreed and several will never be offered a new deal even if they offered to play for £1 a week.
