I was talking to my son yesterday about a game I saw at Fartown, I think it was in the 60s. It was a challenge cup game against Salford the weather was absolutely dreadful it was chucking down with rain all through the game and all day long. I seem to remember the final score was 0-0 or it may have been 2-2 I cant remember I think Salford had just signed David Watkins from Wales Rugby Union it was a big deal in those days. I remember going with my Dad to the game and seem to remember Fartown lost the replay. I wondered if anybody else could remember this game or know any more facts about it as it was so long ago my memory isn't what it once was !!!! Thanks

We had a player , Richard Wallace, sent off in the first game.
No recognised goal kicker ,Ally Ford missed kicks in the replay.
Seth Senior missed a tackle on , Richards,Inthe replay,cost us a try.
Think I'm right about this.

I remember going to Station Road watching Fartown. Don't know when it was but am pretty sure it was just before Swinton played their last game their in 1992. Any memories anyone.

I went to station Road a few times. Im sure the last game was against Fartown and it was on my birthday, Im also pretty sure that Fartown won and I can remember drinking in the bar in the main stand after the game which was packed , we were standing with Pete Subritzky and Mick McTeague and we got a lift home with Ian Laybourne who used to write for the Examiner in those days

I remember the replay being played at Swinton but can't remember why.
We're Salford being punished for a previous indiscretion,or was their ground just unfit?

Almost certain I was at that game in 1992.From memory it was a midweek evening kick off.Very likely the final game Fartown played at that venue as the home club vacated it during that year.

Memories of Station Road, one old grandstand with a large open terrace beneath where the home fans would gather then large open terracing on the opposite side and behind the sticks at one end, which I think might have been cordoned off.The Station Road end they had built a sports centre on the old terracing.

It was the biggest Lancs capacity stadium in it's prime apparently, not surprising as it was much like Odsal in it's vastness.

Good aspect of Station Road,it was so close to the M62.

Final flash back memory,we were in the pub by the ground,(which I think is no longer is there) playing the fruit machine, which must have been programmed to chuck out a bit of brass at the time, a couple of locals were not amused, asked us to go forth and multiply as like we were robbing them of their beer tokens for that evening.

I was at both matches with my dad can't remember much about the games only having to climb over a fence at the end of the match to get out of the stand, could be wrong but seem to remember it being foggy and the match very much in doubt of being played.

This photo of that game was on a calender that the club produced a few years back.
A real moment in time from a game played half a century ago,the Salford player about 4 foot off the ground and parallel to the pitch as he makes that tackle.

Very early exchanges obviously before the rain and gluepot pitch made the players unrecognisable.

To my knowledge there is no online database of Huddersfield’s fixtures from the very begining of the club. St Helens have got an excellent one. Be good if we could have similar,a big task but would certainly be worth it.
