once again i thought the young kids Russell, Senior, Hewitt, Wardle etc showed up very well and were again let down by some of the more experienced lads, they were having to make tackels after the big names couldn't be bothered or simply didnt put enough effort in, surley the likes of lawrence, murphy clough etc should be leaading the way an showing these kids how to do it not the other way round.

least the future is bright with this lot around

You've probably picked 3 players who work the hardest for the team? Agree the young kids are 100% effort but i don't see how Murphy, Bruno and Clough are letting anyone down?

Murphy's impact was literally zero yesterday, about 3 carries and very little yardage, getting led off the field 'busted' stirs the emotions but isn't doing much else for us, he needs to retire at the end of the year. I will say again, him and Lawrence on the field at the same time is too much. Both sides really struggled to make yardage and relied heavily on penalties to put them in attacking positions, we need far more go forward.

Two offloads we made all game.
I’m getting sick of seeing certain forwards running into the line and turning their back. No intention of an offload- but then makes it easier for the opposition to get them on their back on the floor and slow down the PTB.
It’s the little things that makes all the difference, for instance people moan about Lawrence not making metres- no he doesn’t make tonnes of metres, what he does though is rarely gets turned on his back. He hits his front and gets a quick PTB for us to play off next play. If leemings at acting half he uses it.
We don’t make many metres after contact, the likes of seb Matagi should be driving the legs and getting those for us. It’s one thing Ferguson was good at.

yep, murphy has always looked busted its just the way he walks... all teams need players like this in the engine room they give you the 7/8 out of 10 every week, if they all did that we would win far more than we lose.

its the ones that go missing and have brain farts that cost us not these guys.... clough has been good since he come back has certainly slimmed down and looks more mobile enjoy watching him play makes some good yards for us turning his back in the tackle and moving them back, workhorse we have missed in the pack

making an extra metre/ half metre a carry is a waste of time if the player is not attracting defenders and is then being put on his back resulting in a slow PTB. This is why defences are on us so quickly and we end up playing in our own half most of the game
Hit the front, quick PTB with our small pack is to our advantage. It would be different if the player is big enough to attract several defenders and we tried the odd offload.

Agree with you there , I also think that Matagi played a good game last night tbh , he’s a very passionate player anyway every time kr made an error he looked like he won the lottery

Yes, I thought jake, Innes and Hewitt were very good. All this experience will stand then in good stead going forward.

Not academy but butterworth just had a decent game for Batley. Good kicking game and distribution. Solid enough in defence
