its finally here!

new look giants , going to be interesting how we go

salford are out bogey team so cant be confident of a win here

no mcgillvary... amongst others such as cudjoe and ferguson.... wont know about the rest till the squad is announced.. clough/obrien/roberts etc

think salford are missing their two main hookers.

innes senior to play on the wing or wardle brothers to team up at centre/wing...?

hopefully a decent crowd, some may stay home to watch the hull derby. will the salford fans be in our side of the ground or behind the posts?

Unless something has happened since Saturday we'll have our first choice hooker, Joey Lussick, fully available. Josh Wood is out and so is Logan Tomkins but Joey can easily do the full 80 without being spelled.

Other than that, the only one of our first choice 17 out is Ed Chamberlain who looks like he could be out for 6 weeks. I'd anticipate a starting 17 of something like....

Evalds

Johnson
Welham
Sa'u
Sio

Lui
Hastings

Mossop
Lussick
Dudson
Josh Jones
Turgut
Flanagan

Burke
McCarthy
Nakubuwai
A.N Other

We've obviously not got the biggest of squads but that 17 should give you a decent game.

Nah I don't think so. A lot of the guys on our forum are quietly confident that our spine can do a lot of damage given decent ball. Hastings and Lui will be massive for us but Lussick's impact can't be underestimated (he'll be back in the NRL with Jacko IMO when his contract runs out) and Niall Evalds could have a big season chiming into the line. Sio adds potency out wide where we lack a bit of pace and Junior and Welham give us a nice balance of raw power and a little bit of subtlety in the centres.

The big concern is obviously lack of squad depth and how our "slimmed down" pack goes as there won't be many smaller packs in the league. Everyone has us down as finishing just above London but I think we may go under the radar a little bit and shock a few people. I'm not talking top 6 here but I don't see why we can't be in and around the 8 (injuries permitting).

As for Friday I think we might sneak it as we've got a good record at your place but it'll be tight I think. I think we're good value with the bookies at 5/2 and a few others seem to be in agreement. (Cue a 40 point drubbing for Salford. )

Either way, hope it's a good game and we bring plenty across to create a good atmosphere. All the best for the season (after Friday of course  ) :thumb:

yep that price is certainly tempting for a salford win.

no doubt salford will also target that right hand side where we will be missing cudjoe/mcgillvary... know most teams will be for a good while till they are back!

Tough opening game but this is super league both teams look stronger than the previous year, especially like Salfords spine and pace on edges.

Good crowd expected too hope Salford travel well as they are usually very boisterous

Id like us to line up like:

Darnell
Uate
Jake Wardle
Turner
Innes Senior
Gaskell
Frawley
Matagi
Leeming
English
Joe Wardle
Mellor
Lawrence

Taai
Seb
Roberts
O Brien

but the reality is Murphy will get picked over Joe Wardle or Ollie Roberts (who might actually be injured as he was named to play against Wakey and didnt). Wasnt impressed with Murphy in any of the pre season games.

Our bench is much stronger than Salfords and is what should win us this game.

Frawley
Matagi
Leeming
English
Murphy

Woolford says he will make an amendment tomorrow after the captains run. I presume this is in relation to Jake Wardle or will we be registering Scott Grix........

hope we can get away with it this time not like previous 3 years!

worried about a joe wardle/innes senior partnership in defence... hope they can step up.

going to be a good game i think!
