Adam Watene Fund

Please follow the link below to the official release of details of the Adam Watene Fund.

This fund has been set up in the shadow of the departure of Adam and it's aims are quite simple - to raise money to assist in the lives of Adams surviving family.

We would like to thank all those who have offered assistance to date and there will be more details to follow about the events and other efforts going forward.

On behalf of The Adam Watene Fund.

Location: A mysterious location in Yorkshire!
The number eight and signature of the late Adam Watene will be embossed onto next year’s replica shirt in memory of the prop-forward who died suddenly on October 13.

Wakefield Wildcats will do this as a mark of respect for the outstanding service Adam contributed to the club.

Sing a song of Yorkshire, from the Humber to the Tees
Of cricket, rugby, beer, of pudding and of cheese
I know no other county where the land is quite so fine
England's lovely county. And I'm proud to call it mine

Where shining purple heather stretches far across the moor
And the lapwing's cry above me takes the place of traffic roar
And peace comes drifting gently, there's no place I'd rather be
Than this land of hills and valleys, from the Pennines to the sea

So when I've done my roaming, and when my step grows slow
When heart and mind assure me that the time has come to go
Then let me rest in Yorkshire, for its there I want to lie
'Neath sun and wind and heather... and a gleaming Yorkshire sky

Wakefield Wildcats have set up a fund to secure the future of the late Adam Watene's children.
Is anyone else up for walking from The Galpharm to Belle Vue on 24th May 2009 with me for this cause?
It is a 3.30pm kick off on that day so if you are up for it, I'll get some sponsor forms sorted and posted out, if you PM me your email addresses.
I can also sort some collection buckets for the journey as well.

Many thanks,

REIDY

Personally I feel there are "nationwide charities" (Lifeboat Appeal, Guide Dogs for the Blind etc --and also ones "closer to home" which can in some cases push a particular "button" for individuals because of personal experiences or circumstances ( Kirkwood Hospice , HRI scanner, LGI I.C unit etc)
In addition there are tragic "accidents" close the the game we all love which -even though we do not always know the unfortunate victims personally - seem to be that little bit closer to home --and part of "LIFE"`s bigger picture, rather than just the game
Adams family`s sad events fall into the latter - and whilst he was a Wakefield player - a member of his family has connections with our club and others

Personal finances and situations often preclude us from supporting all the charities we would like - and priorities have to be set - that is fully understandable and blameless

But I feel that the situation could easily be reversed and would like to feel that in such circumstances - as in the case of Sky and her ordeal, club fundraising , club allegiance and supporter rivalry could be put firmly to one side and "there but for the grace of God" applied - with fans stopping to think how "isolated" they might feel in a similar circumstance

I`m proud to believe that even now the game is big business and much more professional , there still exists overall in the games fan base and the British Public in general a "decency" and "team spirit" that overides politics and the national situation - clearly indicated by the way fans from many different clubs rally round and "pull together" in cases such as this . Long may it continue and we do what we can to help those less fortunate.

Be proud to walk with you for such a good cause if that is okay with you.

In case no-one has seen it on the sticky, we are doing a walk on the 24th May 2009 from the Glapharm to Belle Vue (via some pubs) to raise money for the family of the late Adam Watene.

As neighbours to Wakey, please show your mettle and PM me to say you will do the sponsored walk to support a family who are now without a Dad.

All the best for 2009.
