Wadski has refered to the supply/ demand effects.
There is another more worrying reason for discounting shirts only half way through a season.......that the club has cash flow probems. They need cash to pay for todays running costs and money tied up in inventory will not pay the bills. So they forgo any profit just to get their hands on some cash.
If Wakey expected the average gates of 7500 mentioned in the stadium naming promotion then it is likely that you ordered shirts accordingly. With gates lower than last year you may well have 'over ordered' and now have a lot of shirts in boxes. lots of money tied up in stock.
But hey, if you think half price shirts at this stage in the season means a boyant club....go ahead
