You hired him, presumably, based on a GF run that was created by Jackson Hastings and Joey Lussick and a cup final appearance that we didn't win after having a fairly easy run to it. Watson thought he would leave while his stock was high, which is fair enough but if you think that for some reason your fortunes will change overnight you may be in for disappointment. Watson when at Salford had a real reluctance to promote the good quality young lads from our academy, and it seems that continues at your club. This isn't a bitter 'rub it in' post from a Salford fan either by the way. While we would have been happy for him to stay at the time, the way he manufactured his exit showed a different side and we wouldn't have him back for anything.
He may come good for you, but I think his success (the small bit he has had) with Salford relied heavily on a few quality players in Hastings, Lussick, Evalds, and a pack punching above its weight rather than coaching genius. He did seem to have a knack for getting the most out of players that were seen as average at other clubs, but once again a lot of that could be attributed to raising their game due to the likes of Hastings and Lussick pushing them around the park.
He may come good, but I think you'll need to stick with him for a while before you see a great deal of improvement. Whether you all have the patience for that is another matter of course.
What quality young Salford players????? Did you even have a proper academy to appoint from? Didn’t the Red Devil get rid of that. I agree with much of what you have said but not about the youngsters. There have been plenty coming through, and Watson has continued there. The main issue is many of what would have been out third year academy quit last year. So choice is limited. Club didn’t have an income so couldn’t give bigger contracts so many were lost. I do agree about the rest though. Sezer hasn’t been able to do what Hastings did for salford. There’s something not right- edwards has already had a dig and it just seems like some of the players haven’t bought into what’s being asked. Robbo is the invisible man. Injuries have killed us so browny isn’t waving his magic wand this time around. Some odd decisions made at the end of last season letting turner and taai go but keeping gavet seemed bonkers to me. Starting the season with only two proven hookers then sending new youngster on a year long non recall loan? What?

That said maybe the snake will make you into Salford with Tui/Seb and Fages.
this is hilarious - only two of those players you listed began at your academy - and both were about 10 years ago. THATS the reason you weren't awarded an elite academy. Griffin came through Wakey. O' brien Wire. we can all name players who used to play for our club.........
We've had a few young lads from our academy that could have broken through under Watson. Yes we didn't have an elite academy but we have always run an academy...
I don't know why you have always been confrontational, jools. I haven't said anything that warrants defcon 3. Watson will not promote your youth. He'll promote an obvious talent that can't be ignored, but how many of them does each club have? Not many. When he joined your club he highlighted the 'wealth of talent' available in the academy as a big factor as to why he joined, yet us Salford fans knew the smell that came from that statement the day he made it.
I wish you all the luck in the world, as we need more than four teams dominating the competition, I was just saying you may need to be patient.

Evalds and Turner were Salford academy products. Fages and Ratchford were also in that same academy team, which isn't bad for a club that doesn't produce talent.

Chris Hill is the litmus test, he is the stereo typical signing of a bottom 4 team that gets leftovers of players way past their best. I was expecting nuggets of unexploited talent the likes of which salford kept finding, not fillers like Hill, who is garbage and getting worse and has been for a while. Talk about a negative signing, that would be one of the worst for a long time (although cunningham will take some beating)

I know for a fact that Ian Blease is the one at Salford that identified and captured specific talent, rather than Watson. He's an ex-player and ex-players agent turned CEO so he knows his stuff when it comes to spotting talent or hungry players.

Chris hill has been our best prop this year, just to throw that out there.
