we had jackson hastings but didnt want to wait for him to decide yes or no ...in hindsight maybe we should have given him more time to think about it!
The reason we struggle to attract the right type of player GIANTSRL is because of the reputation the club has of being a losers club. It's taken many years to build this reputation up and it will take a long time to change it ( if we ever can ) The only chance IMO is to have a complete change of management, God knows whoever has been running it for the last couple of decades has demonstrated their complete inability.
We have no one who shows any sign of being able to spot a decent player , we have people who know how to pay out heavy money in the hope we have got decent players and how to keep re-signing players we have let go years earlier as not good enough, while at the same time we have young players at the club, better players who can't get in the side .
We have a new halfback now who people are already starting to rubbish, and fair comment he is not pulling up any roots , but what halfback would be able to shine behind a pack like the Giants, they get a good tubbing from every pack they face, Even with three men in the tackle they still can't put the man down and get dragged backwards 10 yds . When it's the other way round how many of our players fight to get up and get a quick play the ball ( gerry ) they lay there like two pound of tripe and just wait their turn to get up.
Remember D Brough winning man of steel, thats because he was playing behind a pack that could hold it's own, and was always kicking and controlling the game from a go forward position, ( like he did for Wakey on Thursday )Last few seasons people have been screaming for him to go, and fair enough it may well have been time, but we would have been just as well to have got rid on a lot of the dead wood that we call Forwards Now we have a bunch of players who couldn't get the better of the local amateurs forwards,
Every side we play against can go the length of the field in 5 tackles against us and be putting high bombs up, whereas our halves are inevitably kicking from our own half, because they are playing behind a bunch of players who dont have what it takes ( for whatever reason ).
We have some very good young players coming through, most of the one's who make very good players will be the one's that move to other clubs, I know we have a couple who have done well with us Cudjo and Gerry are obvious examples ( how many tries would Gerry have scored had he been at Leeds or Cas )
Anyway all this endless mediocrity is destined to go on and on and on until there is an acceptance that the club needs to change it's DNA and for that to happen it's going to take a massive upheaval off the field before they can even start on the field, It's not just about money either' there are clubs with far less money than the Giants being run far better.
Personally i don't expect anything to change because i don't believe there is anyone at the club with either the drive ,the know how or the inclination to do anything about it, They are all making a comfortable living ,why rock the boat, and to be honest i don't really care, Stuff like last night isn't worth trailing down to watch really , Warrington were free wheeling for much of the game. I got a season ticket again this year but i don't see it getting much use, it's not much fun going down to see your team outclassed every week.
