Opinions will, as aways, differ.

Perhaps they got sick of the negative, mindless complaining about anything and everything from players signed and released to whether the coach smiles or not.

Maybe they got sick of the sanctimonious drivel of posters talking for everyone else and then throwing their toys out of the pram when they couldn't fustify their opinion when questioned.

Maybe they finally gave up on trying to interpret the garbled nonsense that some offered up.

Some would agree, some wouldn't. To those that don't, I smile and wave.

sadly there were posters who did not like it when the gossip they heard in a pub was challenged. The challengers would then be labelled 'intolerant'

Or when someone posted a dumb view and were challenged - via analysis and facts - they would claim they were being bullied  And the defence of the dumb view would be defended via "I've watched the game since 1895" or "I buy a ticket" etc . As if these defences make dumb comments any smarter. Likewise we get 'inverted snobbery' about intelligent posting...how dreary.

Ironically the posters who claimed to be bullied would like to dish it out but bleated when they got it back.

Some smarter posters have often gone elsewhere and the dumb ones seem to have quit.

If we had had the current moderation lightness of touch 12-18 months ago this would have helped.

there used to be loads of different topics appear everyday, some serious, some not ...now ...next to nothing
where is everyone ? we cant use the off season or nothing to talk about as an excuse cos the season is a month old now.

Maybe attitudes like this is part of your problem  quite ironic really that a post like that should appear on a thread asking why you have lost contributers to the forum.

Or maybe people got fedup with the trolling from other fans?

how was my original question an 'attitude' ?

as one of the 'original' posters from many years ago i am referring to the times when there was always something different to read -some serious stuff, some light hearted but everyday there would be hundreds of posts to read.
i wasnt having a pop at anyone on the boards just merely wondering what people's opinion were on why the board is so quiet these days.

All boards have trolls, none of them seem to lose contributers as much as you have because of them. Trolls are temporary and as such people either ignore them or have a good argument and send them on their way. Maybe opinions from your own need to be tolerated more whether you agree with them or not rather than be ridiculed.

I wasn't talking about your post, merely quoting it because I was offering an opinion on your o/p, and suggesting that the other quote in my post might be a reason. Marsdengiant may not have meant it to come across this way but to some it might read as a holier than thou attitude.
I don't know whether there would be any correlation between crowds and numbers of forum posters, but it's strange that as you've begun to increase your attendances and interest in the club that the willingness of your fans to come on and discuss all things Hudds seems to have diminished.
