Touch rugby brought to Huddersfield in Extra Time plan
A new weekly session of touch rugby for the over-50s is starting to take off with numbers steadily growing since it was launched in the new year. But more people are needed to make the Friday morning sessions at The Zone in Huddersfield a real success.
The hour-long session, starting at 11am every Friday (12pm for Friday 20th February) and costing £2.50 per person, is taken by Ryan McNeely, Huddersfield Giants' Community Manager, and is a focal point for the community scheme.
Mr. McNeely said of the sessions,
“Touch Rugby is a great way to keep fit and enjoy yourself. We have a range of abilities and fitness levels attending the session, Touch Rugby allows everyone to take part, it is an easy game to pick up and have fun playing in this fabulous indoor facility at the Zone”.
Touch rugby gives players minimum contact and maximum fun, providing the action and exhilaration of rugby - but none of the bruises.
The regular session has been set up in conjunction with Kirklees PALS, the exercise referral scheme for adults, as an Extra Time project funded by the Sporting Pride Community Trust. It is open to any adults aged 50 and over.
Anyone wanting to take part should meet at the reception at The Zone Off St.Andrew's Road. For further information contact Ryan McNeely, tel: 01484 484155.
