rugby league rocked by betting scandal.
an undercover journalist from the st peters parochial bi-monthly newsletter, has caught a bradford businessman setting up a betting "sting" the man as yet unnamed has a string of convenience stores and knocking shops across west yorks. he is claimed to be the middle man for asian sub continent betting syndicates. the scam involved the so called spot betting, with bramley players taking bribes of up to fourteen pence each, to be sent off, sin binned or knock on at certain pre arranged times during bramleys last 2 home games. a dossier has been passed to new scotland yard. chief inspector charlie caroli said " although these are early days in the investigation, two men in green shirts have been arrested, and a large number of players will be interviewed in due course" bramleys chief coach, wallace arnold said " if there is proved to be any truth in these charges, i will make sure the players involved will never play rugby league again. unless its for hunslet or leeds" bramley are now favourites to win the forthcoming headingley sevens tournament. although they will of course be starting all their games with 13 men.
