I hope it doesn’t mean the end of ODonnell at the end of the season.
Lammy keeps talking about Leigh having one of the smallest squads in SL. I have taken a straw poll of the start of the season squads: Hull KR – 32 Huddersfield – 34 Wigan – 30 Leeds – 36 St Helens – 32 Warrington – 33 Wakefield – 30 Salford – 28 Castleford – 37 Catalans – 32 Leigh – 26 Hull FC - 36
Only Leigh and Salford are under the 30 man squad numbers - the intention was always to recruit now once Lammy and Chezzy had seen the strengths and weaknesses in the current squad. 2nd Row is where the injuries have kicked in and consequently Leigh drafted in Shorrocks, who has been ever present in the Pies team since returning. Frankie is hopefully the first of the forwards. The other area for concern is Centre, with Chamberlain seen as not SL material.
At Half Back, Reynolds seems to have cemented the spare birth, with Mellor playing the utility role.
The message clearly coming from Lam in his interviews recently is that he is fairly optimistic that new contract negotiations with O'Donnell will be concluded and that he will re-sign.
I am with Septi here. I do not think Halton's signing is a prelude to O'Donnell leaving. It is more like boosting the squad in a specific position where we are currently short of numbers.
My reading of the Trout reports in the Yorkshire press is that he has signed for Leigh despite the injury. If so, then it is certainly a shame about the potential extent of his injury and the length of time that he is likely to be out of action
