Forums and social media have killed the 'news' aspect of newspapers. It used to be exciting to get the Warrington Guardian and read all the Wire news but nowadays everything is leaked beforehand. I literally cannot remember the last time they broke a story that I hadn't already read about elsewhere.
I think the criticism of the article is a bit harsh to be honest. Of course the CEO isn't going to randomly announce the outcomes of effectively commercial negotiations on the fly or provide a running commentary. Nevertheless, I found the fact we are in active discussions with Williams, Clark and Currie interesting - not least because we have a debate on here about whether to keep Currie.
Social media has made life harder for local journos but I think Turner does a decent job.
Can't see Philbin to Hull unless Tony Smith is a big fan and wants to offer him a bigger contract than we will. It's outside commuting distance so he'd have to up sticks and move his family there (assuming he has one, which I think he does). So it would have to be a significantly better contract, or a much longer one.
I don't see the point in letting Philbin go unless we are lining up 2 signings. Our middle unit has been under pressure all year, why weaken it unless there is a broader plan at play?
