Monaghan was having too good a game to be taken off, could of buggered everything up, unlike last week where we had the freedom to gamble and put him on, this week it was too close all through the game to stop Monaghans momentum.
I totally agree about Monas playing too well to be taken off by the way, just find it interesting to see coaches not make subs just for the sake of making them recently; Richard Agar left Shaun Berrigan of all people on the bench for most of the match, as Houghton was playing a blinder from 9 in the Hull derby. Usually coaches bring on their 'impact' hooker on after twenty or so minutes, then reverse the sub at about the 60 minute mark seemingly because it's in fashion.

10 mins to go I was talking to my mate next to me & we couldn't work out who Clarke was to come on for as Monas was having a blinder & the back row were playing well
personally, and i haven't seen this back yet, i would've kept carvell off the field, and had westwood or louis moved to prop and clarke could have filled in there.

My guess is that TS felt a match of such intensity could have been too big a step-up for Clarkey only one game into his comeback. None of the other forwards looked excessively tired. Carvell was not at his best but for a similar reason to Clarke - he's not really fully match fit.

I guess when Clarke would have come on with 60/65 gone the game was at a level of intensity and balance that TS didn't want to risk throwing a cold player onto the field. Same reason for Deacon only coming on when Wigan needed to throw caution to the wind to save the game. If TS had been worried about Clarke's ability to come into the game prior to kick off he would have put Vinnie or Cooper on so really wouldn't read too much into it.
