But going forward for 5 drives down the middle followed by a kick is so poor and predictable and outdated.
What we should be doing is 3/4 good drives up the middle and then giving it to the halves and letting them use their skills to open up the defence, then they would have the opportunities to get the ball out wide.
Problem is, our halfbacks, Briers & Monaghan are not gelling as a partnership, no one is showing any idea of being able to control the game.
With the pack dominating as they now are, any back worth his salt should be able to run riot, what wouldn't Parry Gordon or Bobby Fulton have given to play behind such a pack !
The backs need to be told to get a grip on the game and show flair and real attacking halfback skills.
Question is, are they capable ? Last night they were virtually invisible.
If we have a game plan of 5 drives and kick with a flat attack and no depth, which was a very deliberate style of play last night, the halfbacks aren't really given the chance to control the game.
I just hope Lowes & Wright have got more up there sleeves than a Bradford-esque style performance.
You should be more concerned about our left side defence. It has more holes than a Tetley-Tea bag !
