Channel 9’s Danny Weidler in Australia has confirmed that despite those discussions the Newcastle club have no plans to replace current coach Adam O’Brien. He was told in a meeting this morning.

Fingers crossed. It would be the best signing since Briers if he were to come.

An Aussie could be a wise move as it may settle some of the antipodean players who have sided with Mcguire. Vaughan and Dufty are quality on their day and it would be a big loss to lose those .

Do I have this correct that Newcastle Knights' assistant coaches are Michael Monaghan and Brian McDermott?

I wouldn't mind Brian McDermott.

Also are there any work permit rules that will restrict who we can get? Do they have to have worked as an NRL head coach or international coach in the last X months?

Yeah but we know the cycle of Wire coaches, its the same as England football.

English coach fails, we say "we need the best from wherever they are in the world".

Bring in an Aussie coach, then we start hearing about how there are cliques in the squad and certain players are "undroppable" because they are Aussies meanwhile young English talent is farmed out on loan.

Aussie coach gets sacked, then the call goes out "we need an up and coming English coach or somebody who played for Warrington and understands what it means to wear the primrose and blue jersey".

Agree. The cycle only stops, or gets put on hold when we're not losing.

McDermott is an assistant. Monaghan isn't, he's the NSW head coach.

I wouldn't touch McDermott. Even Leeds fans don't rate him.

Just to throw another hat in to the ring, I would take Nathan Brown.

Are we not interested in Rowley? Seems to have really matured as a coach and a bloke, quality rugby without the grubbiness he initially coached. He also seems to instil excellent morale. I would be happy with Holbrook, Rowley or Monas.

You might think he's too old at 84, but if Joe Biden gets re-elected he'll be 86 by the end of his Presidential term. At least we wouldn't be trusting Murph with the nuclear codes.

Murphy and Cullen… the dream team

Leeds fan in peace.

Just on McDermott, if some of your players can't cope with criticism from Powell I think they'd have no chance with McDermott, he would tear them a new one - maybe that's what they need.

I really feel for you guys, Powell was brought in to change the culture and squad, and it's been a massive failure, which I think is a shame. He did this at Leeds in the early 00s but we realised that he wouldn't be the coach to actually finished the job and brought Tony Smith in. I do think Powell was and is vastly overrated and I don't think he was ever going to get you over the line in a GF, his coaching career is littered with choking in the big games, and I think heats the biggest shame is he's come in ripped the squad apart and actually left you guys in a worse position than when he came.

Hope you can get the right coach - a lot of Leeds fans have a downer on Rohan Smith but what he's trying to do is build the culture of the whole Rhinos Setup starting with bringing the Youth through, unfortunately that will take time but personally I can see the changes and I think it will bear fruit, I think that's what you guys need not a quick fix and throwing daft money at NRL players.

Rowley's team have not won since the day before we last did. He's even less likeable than Powell.
