I actually suspect the comparison to football is wrong, as I agree, a statue of a modern football player would be vandalised. Whereas Moore is a sign on the only national team triumph, something they can all get behind; something we don't have the same way in RL.
I strongly doubt that a statue of an RL player outside Wembley would be vandalised. For a start, there's only one really one opportunity to do so, which is Challenge Cup Final day. Much more likely is that it would, on that day, be adorned with a hat or scarf in a rival team's colours.

I agree. It's a society thing. Someone born like me in the 1940's have too much respect for people and property so a statue celebrating that era would have been o.k. . Society has gone soft on the vandals. No discipline at home or in schools, and we're paying the price.

I like the idea of an agony and ecstasy statue... two players in nearly identical poses... Don Fox and Martin Offiah with plaques explaining why both were heroic players

What about one of Ryan Bailey giving it to Jon Wilkin after the Grand Final to show the same thing.

What about a statue of Stanley Gene, people of his generation would respect it.

maybe a celebration similiar to the Leeds one (hints towards Fox- without reminding everyone of the pain) but with a group of players through the ages (this can include Edwards if rogoues so needs it)

all this sentiment about the older generation being more respectful is a crock, sorry rogues, but graffitti has been arround for genrations if not thousands of years, people born in the 40's were avin it large on the beaches of brighton and bournemouth with their scooters and motorcycles. looking at the past as though it was a great time is somewhat tinted, neigh tainted by nostalgia. people haven't changed that much. human nature certainly hasn't. as stated bobby moore was a national hero, find a RL equivelant and you'll be onto a winner, stick some one like offiah or edwards and in my opinion you'll be asking for trouble, their acievements are too recent and will act like a red rag to a bull regardless of a token primrose and blue scarf round it's neck when wire visit wembley. (cue all the "wire won't get there again" nonsense)

The statue should be generic in nature and not of anyone specific. Or maybe symbolic, like maybe something combining a ball, the posts and the number 13.
