It appeard t'Pies are quite giddy at the thought of this going through. It has got me thinking; who would you prefer to take from Wigan's squad? Of the top of my bonce, I can only think of Hock and even then he would have to improve his ball retention/decusion making massively.
Didn't William Webb Ellis pick up the ball and run, someone should really tell Rugby Union.
Tomkins is the obvious choice, but I can't see the lad ever wanting to leave, not if you believe the fact that we've made numerous enquiries as to his availability in the past. Sifting through the Pie Board's rumour posts, seems Hock has had a falling out with Nobby over alleged boozing problems - so maybe his lovely mug doesn't fit. If Smith can sort our lot out there's no reason he couldn't sort out a top mongrel forward like Hock too.

Surely the truth or not behind this is only a phone call away?

Your correct, but no offers have been forthcoming from an NRL side yet, although Canberra did make enquiries during the off season.
This rumour is just that, and should be treated in the same vain the release clause story was. Gleeson is very much part of Smiths plans until the end of the season.
Yep, your mission should you choose to accept it, LWF, is to get on the blower and get jiggy with your Deep Throat. Any news hugely appreciated.

As I understand it, TS and Gleeson have never really got on, apparently. On the other side of the coin, I have personally heard Martin Gleeson saying he would "NEVER" (which was said in a very very strong tone of voice) sign for Wigan.
Confusing, Yes. Not too bothered about losing Mathers but IMO Goulding with the correct coaching, training and development aid, will turn out to be a class act. All of them three factors I know he will gain from Tony Smith. Thats IF the deal goes ahead.

See, as I saw it I thought they DID get along. Wasn't it Smith who encouraged Gleeson to get more involved in games, running him out at SO for the England internationals? Seemed to be accomodating. Am surprised to hear that they don't get along. Furthermore I can't understand why a Wigan lad would insist he'd never play for his hometown team. Weird. I know it's what you've heard mate, but it paints an odd picture.
Goulding does indeed have bags of potential, and TS is the man to unearth it.

Quote:"Martin is just about the most experienced person in the squad and he's been leading the team naturally in the last few weeks," said Smith. "It's a mark of his maturity and how far he's come. I'm sure he'd be the first to admit he's had a couple of chequered markers in the past but he's well past that and thoroughly deserves the captaincy."
