He played for "Wigan's main challengers at the time" according to another thread on here, so he should have got a sniff, surely. Who were his competitors - Goodway, Platt, Dixon, Divorty..???
Not having a pop, btw, Roberts was one of my favourite players, but he clearly wasn't especially highly rated outside of Wilderspool.

Gregory aside, who did we have that was a regular GB squad member?
Didn't William Webb Ellis pick up the ball and run, someone should really tell Rugby Union.

No-one. Forster got a couple of caps, Holden and Woods made a squad once, though all against France, I think.
McGinty probably got in the squad when he went to Wigan.
How the selectors overlooked Kevin Meadows, Barry Peters & Rocky Turner, I'll never fathom.

Billy Mcginty was half the player Roberts was and rightly so was no where near an International cap .......Mcginty went to Wigan and played no different to his time at wires but...............

Shows how good a coach barrow was that we reached all those finals and challenged a full time wigan side without a load of internationals. The GB side back then was basically anyone who was at wigan and british, i once watched a test when the entire pack were from wigan.

Bloody hell! That gets me thinking; Duane, Holden & Roberts all careers that were wiped out by knee injuries. Potential career GB players. Quite gutting really.
