They are all backs, maybe they just wear/wore them as fashion statements then.

True Chris Hill was going off nearly every game for HIA and he wears one. Some think Giants were cheating the system but that’s another story.

I’ve always been hesitant to let my son wear a scrum cap, it has very little protection against concussion as the issue is the brain movement rather than the impact. There are studies on it if you wish to google it. They can protect against cuts and bruises but my worry is with a head guard on players are more likely to be more comfortable putting their head somewhere it shouldn’t be so actually be more likely to pick up a concussion.

You would have to be very gullible to believe he was injured on every occasion that he went off for a H.I.A.

These lads obviously feel more confident with one on. If scrum caps were proved to prevent concussion I reckon it would be made compulsory for everyone to wear them.

Or maybe they believe that the padding on the scrum cap will give them additional protection from injuries such as a fractured scull.

If the RFL did make wearing scull caps mandatory now, they would be making themselves liable to claims off former players who could justifiably argue that they should have been made to wear them too and the RFL would be unable to defend these claims.

Yep makes sense really ... I reckon it must prevent a bit of bruising & cuts etc when you hit someone's knee & other hard bits. Amateur boxers & pro. boxers in training have 'em too.

he reminds be of a young Chris Riley in that regard.... That boy had absolutely no self preservation either.

I remember someone saying in the ground once 'the problem with Riley is he always gets injured and needs treatment'.... his mate replied with 'yea but he is always playing next week'.

I always thought Chris Hill's scrum cap was because he was losing his hair, and he used it to hide that comb-over attempt from gusts of wind.
