Patton did his job today IMO, organising and putting in the kicks. His general positional kicking was excellent, pinning Saints back several times with quality long kicks that held in the field of play. Austin was the weaker of the two, he is there to create chances and worry teams and create space for others just because he's there. But today he did nothing of note, getting splattered by Bentley on the one half break he did make.
Go one then... i will bite
he isnt very good.... thats the bottom line. You cant watch that game and pinpoint Austin making mistakes.... What i saw from Austin was someone desperately trying to make things happen, but not having any luck.
When i watch Patton i see the poor passes, the bad decision making, the ropey defence.... over and over over.
When i see Austin, i see someone trying his hardest to pull the rest of the players up to his level... if we gave him a better pack to work behind and a half decent 7, god knows what we would see.... he is currently top of the charts with 18 tries and 11 assists.... is probably the leading contender for MOS..... Not bad for a 'settling in' period.
It's getting to the point now, where if he doesn't put a team to the sword on his own, he getting stick for it... it seems people think he should be levitating over players and scoring at will or something... amazing.
