Exactly, "form". A player doesn't lose his skill and ability over night, but like I said early, Myler has been better so far this season.

And I'm pretty certain the best team in the world (Manly) would have him back in a shot, they no what he's capable of, as do most people who watched him at Manly.

From what I understand, Monaghan is a half back, he's just a better hooker. He says his preferred position is half back, and we've seen him do some great things at half back. There's something about him, the way he plays, the way he acts, that just spells out a man who's unhappy. He works hard and that's just the nature of him, but he always seems so annoyed, and it feels like he's waiting to bite somebody's head off.

I dunno, maybe it's just me, but if Monaghan doesn't buck his ideas up then he must go, he must, because it's clear to see he isn't up to it, and from the way he's coming across, he doesn't look like he himself feels up to it.

Thanks for your comments but this thread's losing it's focus. The point of it was to try and say that Australian imports are not the way to short/ medium or long term success. It's not about individuals

monaghan today seemed like he didnt want to be here, by the sounds of it he doesnt but he still tried just half heartedly, he could easily walk into any NRL team and the annoying thing is as soon as he goes back he will turn into the player he was at manly and its quite frustrating.

I've said elsewhere that Monas was plop. What he also was, was very unfit. Looked like he had a major fitness test on the pitch, the physio guy put him through his paces for a good 20 mins, lots of stretches etc. Don't get me wrong, he was cack, but I'm not sure he didn't 'put himself on the line' kinda thing for us today, so I don't think he was fit enough to do himself justice.

He looked borderline not playing kinda unfit.

One comment. Stiched by a kid!!!! His personal pride shouldn't have let that happen. But he's not happy here and needs to go back which strenghens my argument that imports are not the answer anyway.

My issue with Monas though is his decision making. There are imes when he needed o let the ball go. I know conditions were bad, but Grix was just not touching the ball, and if Monas was injured, then he had no chance by keeping the ball himself.

I was also annoyed when he kept kicking rather than getting Bridge to do i all (although Bridge did leave the field for a spell).

Oh mate, he was terrible. My point was more of an answer to the folk saying 'he didn't look interested', I don't think that's fair, he was obviously playing through the pain barrier.

As a halfback he was crap today, you'll get no defence from me. Bridge wasn't bloody Cooper Cronk, but you felt he was the one more likely to make things happen, his kick created Johnson a try, very unlucky with an identical one, that I think PJ tried to turn back inside that didn't come off. Did he give the ball to Westwood too ?

I find watching Monaghan, the word is laboured. He doesn't strike me as somebody it comes naturally too, it all looks very forced, and because of this, it all looks very telegraphed. Folk knock Briers, but his brain is razor sharp, he has that picture in his head, he's almost to clever at times for his own good, but he knows when to release passes, where his runners are etc, it's fluent, with Monas you get the feeling all this is running through his head as he's got the ball in hand, and he never fully commits to what he's doing, he's should I kick ? should I pass ? Run ? Before you know it, he's done none of them really, not at full welly anyhow, and he's been clobbered.

I've been saying the same too. My own stat that I've posted countless times is that no team has won a Superleague grand Final with an Australian half-back. The only non English halves starting in a team that has won a GF are the Pauls, and they gave long service to their side from an early age. I've no real issue with young overseas players coming over to ply their trade because they tend to give long service, especially those from NZ or Islanders, but the evidence seems to indicate that you can't buy in success in crucial positions by buying the so called big names.

Its a shame we can;t search the archive of this board, because I bet there were plenty of Leeds and Saints fans back in the day who bemoaned not bringing in big name Aussie halves instead of playing McGuire, Burrow- or buying Pryce. I'm sure those same fans would never admit it today.

The other position I think we all need to worry about is centre. This is one where we are swamped with overseas players to the detriment of young British talent. In the last couple of seasons, we have seen some English centres come through, but there are all too many English second rowers playing in SL sides who have switched to second row or loose forward after starting their careers in the centres because of a lack of opportunity in their original position - and the one thing the English side is not short of is choice in the second row.

Myler will be a future GB player i've no doubt about that whatsover. As a Salford fan its brilliant to see someone as young as him dictating play i just worry about how long it will be before one of the big boys come knocking at our door!!

Worst post for a long while!, are you saying mona was better 5 yrs ago when myler was 14? This is Mylers first full season as a senior and he is excelling. Its relatively easy for eastmond at saints behind a dominant pack, but myler and to an extent tompkins at wigan are doing the job behind very poor packs. Monahan has been behind great forwards his whole career, and is (in my humble opinion) behind some of the best props at least in superleague.
