Salford coach Shaun McRae has called for a quick end to the uncertainty over the future of teenage England star Richie Myler.

The 19-year-old starred in England's 66-12 victory over France last weekend, scoring a record 30 points.

McRae believes Myler has become unsettled by the heightened speculation linking him with a big-money move away from The Willows and that it affected his performance in the Reds' 14-12 Super League defeat at Hull on Friday night.

"I think he was a bit flat and I half thought about not playing him this week," said McRae.

"He came back from that Test last week and he's getting attention for the right reasons and he's getting attention for what's happening off the field.

"He looked a little flat in the first part of the week. I don't think he was poor, I just thought he was a bit flat.

"He just looked a little bit out of sorts and it's something we'll have to continually assess. He's under a fair bit of pressure at the moment for a young man and maybe something will sort itself out in a short space of time."

Although Myler is under contract to the end of next season, McRae revealed earlier this week the club had offered him a new deal that would make his the highest-paid player in the history of the club.

Football director Steve Simms is currently waiting for an answer from Myler's agent, Martin Offiah, the former Wigan and Great Britain winger, and McRae believes a long wait could be damaging.

"Let's make a decision and respond accordingly," he said.

"I can only state what I've said all the time - Richard is part of the club, he's signed until the end of next season, he's just been made a tremendous offer which indicates how much we value him and indicates how much we want to build a team around him.

"The ball's in his court now, I don't think Salford can do any more than what they've done.

"I'm sure a decision on that will be made very soon."

It is believed Warrington, who are expected to part company with scrum-half Michael Monaghan at the end of the season, are leading the chase for Myler.

McRae argues the uncertainty is unfair not only on Salford but on the player himself.

"It's really up to Steve Simms and the chairman," he added. "The thing is, it's not going to go away until Richard either says 'yes' or, in the worse-case scenario, and he says 'thanks but no thanks' and then we have to respond.

"But it's not easy. He's been courted because he's a gifted player. He's a talent in the game we've all seen come along very quickly.

"It doesn't surprise me he gets this attention and it doesn't surprise me the situation we're in.

"What we have to do is deal with it very quickly for the sake of us and Richard.

"I think, if I was in that situation as a young boy, I reckon I'd be losing some sleep. I don't think he's absolutely settled

Unsettled all the way into a wire shirt - hopefully.

Fat blokes in the mud, flat caps, bogs that drain pi55 directly onto your boots - Now it's all 'Big Ask', 'Arm Wrestle', 'Collision' 'Contact' 'Facials' 'Upper Body Strength' 'Big Units' 'Scooting from Dummy Half' 'Energy Levels' 'Laying the Platform' ‘Middles’ and 'T-R-Y'. Let’s not forget resilience.

Smith would have tapped him up in Paris. He's no need to be unsettled, he knows where his future lies.

Does anybody else read that as a defensive statement? Salford state they have done their best, but said player doesn't want to sign and has indicated a desire to leave.

It begs the question; would Salford have offered a new contract if it wasn't for all this speculation?

Didn't William Webb Ellis pick up the ball and run, someone should really tell Rugby Union.

Head turnedtastic.

It's a strange statement really, almost Salford sort of 'covering their backs' in terms of telling the fans that they've done everything they can. I'd be very surprised to see him still there in 2010. Whether he's at our gaffe is a different story, I just think he's obviously with his agent, well aware of what salary he can command, and also what career opportunties are out there for him.

I'm sure our club will act with integrity as always, and if there's a deal to be done, we'll try our best to do it.

Very defensive.

Basically if he doesn't sign the new contract they've offerd him, he'll be gone at the end of this season. Despite him having another year after this. So they can get a fee for him. That what it looks like doesn't it?

I'd be shocked if he wasn't wearing primrose and blue next season.

No, our interest was noted along time before then, a long long time before his England selection.

Offiah will unsettle him as he did Sherriffe and Worrincy at Quins-he's the agent for all of them

A few people have said it's already a done deal, and that all the talk from Salford of late is just to cover their own backsides. I'm not one for believing all the speculation and hype, but it wouldn't surprise me if that's the situation. I hope so anyway.
