I went out on date last night and the girl despite living all her 31 years just off Carrington spurr in Sale didn't have a clue what I meant when I said I was a Salford fan.
It is not the fact that she isn't a sports fan as she follows United (she's good looking but sadley not perfect ) and is aware of Sale sharks. What does that say for the clubs marketing and general public awareness when someone who lives so close to the new ground and the city in general doesn't have a clue who or what we are.

Having lived in Sale myself for the past 9 months I can honestly say I think I have spotted one piece of Salford merchandise in that time, let alone any club advertising. I know the club did a "huge" marketing drive a couple of years back with those posters they dotted around Salford but that's as much as I've seen. The marketing does seem to be woeful and I understand our marketing budget is probably peanuts compared to some of the big SL clubs but what would it cost for the following?
To advertise on a few of the billboards around Manchester. For volunteers to hand out flyers at local supermarkets. (I'd gladly hand them out at the local Saino's for a couple of hours)
With all due respect to your lovely lady friend she does live in Carrington which is a kind of, no offence intended , nowhere place. (ie you don't "pass through" it).

I said that to her and got a kick under the table, then she pointed out behind the farm is Sale, thought it best not to argue at this early stage

I can understand exactly what she meant
this will not be the end, or even the beginning of the end.
It is merely the end of the beginning

Good marketing would work in different places - better when we have the new stadium. I grew up in Sale and went to a few sharks games with free tickets I got never really got me interested but at the time I had never heard of Salford Reds until I moved to eccles and it still took my mate about 2 months to convince me to come to a game but as soon as I went to one I was hooked that was 6 years ago and been nearly every home game since however at the min the atmosphere is not what it used to be we used to go and have a great time whether we won or lost due to the shed rocking not sure new people coming to a match at the min would get hooked as easily as I did

Haha I remember the first game I took the mrs to - she spent about a hour getting ready and doing her hair to stand in the shed and for us to score in the first few mins and she ended up soaked in beer.
She has not been too enthusiastic to go to many games since !

You sir are a heathen, first taking the 'little lady' into the shed and also the spillage of beer is only to be tollerated when you want an empty glass in a cheap bar and your in a round
