Talked to a lot of rate payers to day. the majority of said.why did we need a loan from Salford City Council.
when it comes to light. that the club had sold the ground that for them raised the question how much did we get
and when and what did we do with that money

Has we are all rate payers first and supporters second. surely we would all want to know the answer
is it going towards the likes of Billy Slater?

The club sold the ground many years ago.

The money went to JAW who owned the ground and as usual he ploughed the money back into the club to help to continue to pay the wages of the players and staff.

The loan from SCC will help the club in the short term to maintain a positive cash flow situation to enable the new ground to be completed and also compete profitably with other clubs in Super League this season.

Remember also that SCR also have 14 Development Officers in the City all paid for by the Club for our childrens sporting benefit. These resources dont come cheap either.

Yes I agree Early bath! but it would help if the club were a lot more positive in marketing the club, rumours & speculation were rife around the ground today.

If we need a loan now how are we going to afford to run the new stadium. also look at the gates we get i can't see salford pulling in 8,000 fans in to the new stadium. Its a dismal day for the club taking a loan how do they plan to pay it back the supporter can see the gates jumping well up and cant see anyone paying 20 pounds plus to watch crap

Well we can always rely on Neil72 for a positive comment! Surely it's the very fact that we are NOT in a new stadium that is having the efffect on cash flow & income hence the need for a loan.
The arguments over the crowd size has beig going on for so long I think every angle has been discussed? Unless SCR does get an improved stadium then I think everyone agrees the days are numbered - clubs who move to a new ground do tend to get a bounce - look at Warrington and the difference between Wilderspool and the HJ.

I thought you weren`t a supporter neil. Your last post suggested that you are not coming along again. So why are you so interested?

If you are in business and you require finance for a stated purpose for the future which will benefit that business it is standard practice to budget sensibly and arrange a `bridge`. That is what the club have done - quite sensibly - via SCC.

If you cant see the logic behind the club moving forward to Barton instead of staying forever in Weaste where there would be NO chance of repayment of the loan then I would suggest you dont go into business.

By the way the loan is guaranteed by the Directors so I really cant see any argument for the club not going for the bridge.

Neal Keeling with nothing to write about again, he normally ignores good news stories about Salford because they don't sell newspapers. The loan was last year if you read the article and the club are working in Salford with lots of schools and young people, that work alone if costed out would cost more than the £340,000 loan. Notice the story doesn't mention the £1m a year which is pumped into the Lowry to keep the likes of the Ballet and opera loving Salford council tax payers happy by only having to pay £50 for a seat.

Good of you to do some polling for the "anti-SCR party".

We are not all rate payers first and supporters second. believe it or not some supporters live outside Salford. I happy to live in Salford (well, Swinton - does that count?? ) and am happy that the Council is at long last supporting the club. I also welcome the funding of the lowry, the orchestra and innumerable grassroots arts and sports organisations because I believe a vibrant cultural and sporting life is an essential ingredient of city life. The funding should also create jobs and attract people to live in the area

I know from reading the advertiser and the Lib Dem leaflets that come through my door I should think that all the council should worry about is fixing pot holes but what a depressing and dull world that would be
