Just a quick post on John Wilshere, firstly I, like many others, am pretty gutted we couldn't keep hold / afford him for next season, but i just wanted to bring his achievement as a Salford player to light.

By my reckoning, John finished with a Grand Total of;
Played: 108(+2 Sub)
Tries: 60
Goals: 269
Points: 778

And that's in just 4 seasons with us, now that may not appear a massive achievement at first when you look at what, say Pat Richards has done at Wigan, but when you take into account he was playing in a team that lost more than it won in his time, thus lacking opportunities, that's not bad, then add to that if you will, during his time with us he didn't always kick goals as 176 goals were kicked by other players in that time (Think of the ones that were missed, Hodgy at Quins!!) that is potentially another 352 points, he could have potentially finished with 1,130 points in just 4 seasons. (of course you could add that John would have missed over 50 of his own in that time)

Which by my reckoning places him 11th on the clubs al time points scoring list and if he'd had chance to add those other points would have placed him 5th on that very table behind Risman, Watkins, Blakeley and Lomas (and yes if he'd had the chance he may have missed then!) and considering that they all managed 10 years + with the club his record is pretty remarkable..

...Oh and he's the owner of one of the finest goals in the clubs history!

One of my favourite players in the relatively short space of time that I've been following the club.

Sad to see him go.

Me too - quality player with a hand in one of the fastest tries at The Willows against Hull. A classic.

He also won punters on Betfair £440,000 with his last kick at the HJ bringing the match into ET.

One poor draw layer lost over £400,000 and no doubt has been looking for JW ever since. LOL

ILL SECOND ALL THAT, REALLY SAD TO SEE HIM GO, WASNT 2 SURE WHEN WE FIRST SIGNED HIM BUT IN HIS GAME AWAY AT WIRE HE PLAYED STAND OFF AND WAS SHOCKED AT WHAT A GOOD PLAYER HE WAS

Has he signed for anyone else?

I don't think you can question Wilshire's contribution on the field over the past few years. I can only assume the decision not to offer him a new contract was based on things such as:

1, Events in Jacksonville?
2, His drink driving offence?
3, He will be 32 next year and maybe the club want to offer a younger player an opportunity?
4, Financial reasons?

From personal experience if a decision seems strange you'll probably find it's not as strange if you was aware of all the factors that were considered in making the decision.

As supportors we can only see a players contribution on the field and we are not privy to what happens behind the scenes.

A classy player always stands out at Salford ( probably because we haven't had many in recent years) but that it what Wilshire is. I am very sorry to see him go, like Hodgy, he created breaks out of nothing and if you add to that the kicking ability, I say thanks for your contribution Jonny.
