Im the new Head of PE at Stretford High School and we have started a RL Club and numbers have been good! We will probably start with 3 teams and build.
On the the ideas is "Red Fridays" in the summer to get kids to go to games. Again they seem keen.
The club is helping us and are really keen.
Just thought you guys would be interested? I might be a Cas fan, but i'd be proud as punch if we got a lad who made it to scholarship or Academy at the Reds!!
I was at a school in Runcorn and within 5 years from nothing we had 4 scholarship lads and 2 in the U18s at Widnes so fingers crossed!!!!

Good work . I'm amazed that the Tory boys over in Trafford would allow such treachery as having Rugby League introduced into their schools . Living in Sale myself I'm not aware of any other RL initiatives in the local schools. I know lads who went to schools like Alty Grammar & St Ambrose and they only got to play Union or Lacrosse!!! What are the chances of other local schools following your example?
Superb news, well done fella. Great to hear things being done at grass root level like this. It is also pleasing to hear Salford are supporting you to.

John Blackburn is great. There is a pilot year 7 festival in Trafford this year. The way it works is that individual schools lead events e.g one school runs the hockey for instance. We are joining the salford schools league.
We hope to be the one that runs RL. Of course RU is very well established in Trafford but that is in the Grammar schools. RL niche can be the rest, but to be fair at the meeting there is no hostility to League
Slowly slowly - my teams will be full of kids who are raw, little knowledge and keen. They come from really diverse backgrounds and Ikram Butt has pledged help to encourage our asian students. We have some positive interest amongst them so fingers crossed.
It all takes time, but im going nowhere and we will get there

Wasnt there a Trafford borough team years ago? seem to remember playing at the pictures on the opposite side of Washway road from TGI Fridays possibly 20 years ago now.
Either way it's a good thing, and lets hope the club continue this type of ground work in the local area.

Yes I believe we held our club record for points scored against a team for 12 or so years. I seem to remember us beating them at the Willows 76-0. Where's KOTS when you need him!

Yeah Trafford Borough started in 1989/90 (having been Blackpol Borough, Spingfield Borough & Chorley Borough) until going back to Blackpool in 1991/92. I think we only met them twice IIRC we played them in 1990/91 we beat them 38-12 @ home and 40-12 Away (Altrincham FC's Moss Lane Ground). They had the one and only Darren Brown playing for them at that time.
Our very own u45d was a fan I believe.

Fantastic news fella, and I'm delighted to hear the club are supporting you and let's hope that relationship continues to grow. I know the club has made great strides into the City of Manchester and I know the club now has a Manchester development office (Seb Rowe I think).
Having a presence in Trafford could be a massive bonus to the Reds and RL in Greater Manchester as a whole. It's also great to hear that you're getting good numbers interested in what is a very un-rugby league related area.
All the best with it and keep us posted on developments.
