I've read the posts on here with interest and just wondered what were people expecting prior to the season starting?

Personally I thought it would take us 6 games or more to get up to speed in the league. I thought it would take the team a while to gel as a unit.

So far it seems to be the case, I thought we had more fight in us but the SL has moved on again since we were last here, we don't have the resources available to compete with most of the teams in SL.

What do I want to see?

Pride and passion in the shirt, honest endeavour even when we lose (which we will)

100 % from the coach would help

I expected a poor start but not a total mockery, but the two teams who beat us one beat Wigan at Wigan the week before and the other put 48 past Warrington the week after, and because of injury John Kerr had to really work on his replacements adapting a new game play through the night, unfortunatley McRae has some sort of Plan A and thats it regardless, he is unable to think underpressure and just carries on blindly.

I just want to see us get some pride back. I hope we can have a good season and once again prove why we deserve to be in the Super League.

I want to see a Salford team that does not persist with one man rugby.
A coach who has the guts to drop underperforming players.
And finally players who want to play for the club.

I expected that we would compete for 80 minutes.

Not for a moment did I think we wouldn't be in for pastings from Leeds, Saints etc., but I honestly thought we'd be giving Wakefield and Castelford a game.

I was stood with a bunch of Cas fans on Saturday night and they were extraordinarily reasonable - pointing out how much they'd improved and how hard their first season back in SL had been - the question is, does our squad have the basic talent in it to be able to improve on their performances. So far (and YES I KNOW it's only 3 games) it seems we have gone backwards in each subsequent game.

Clearly Friday will be another yardstick - I suspect another loss, unless we can get up to the pace of SL, can the squad turn things around in 6 days? Big ask!

To be honest I've been most disappointetd with our forwards - to get back to Red Willow's question - what did I expect - I really thought we'd put together a pack that was capable of a really strong defensive showing and to date I'm very very wrong! (But then I'm not the coach - thank god!)

What did I expect pre-season?

Many more defeats than victories.
Hammerings at Leeds, Saints, Bradford and the like.
Hit and miss games against Warrington, Cas, Wakey, Hudds, Quins, Celtic et al.
I think my expectations will be more than met :(
However, I also expected;
Pride in the shirt from all players,
100% Commitment to Salford from all players
100% Passion for the club from all players.

Looks like I am going to be disappointed

I personally expected that we would have four points up to now.

I also expected and heard John from Salford on Radio Manchester.

I expected that our pack would handle the other forwards better than they have.

I expected more complaints than we have had over the last two games against Wakefield and Castleford considering the performances.

I expected and it was delivered for the handful of not so young yobs to let things rip when things did not go to plan.

As I am on holiday when we play Wigan at home I fully expect that we will win as we always beat Wigan when I am away and John from Salford will be on again saying that Noble should be sacked.

i just expected players to play with pride and determanation. at the moment only a few players are playing with that. i know we wont win the league but giving 110% will keep me happy

I expected that as the season went on we would start to pick up the pace of Super league after a year playing a much lower standard of rugby in NL1. Its a frightening jump and i dont think we have adjusted just yet. I expected it to take six or more games before we found out if our young players could step up and if our new players gel. I expected to lose both our first two away games but win the opener. I expected low home crowd numbers early on given our first two opponents and also to get stick on the message boards for our crowds. I expected to be competative and have been shocked at how easily we lost those two away games. I expected that Bomber would get everyone in the squad involved at some point in the first six games or so given that we cannot get relegated. I expected that overall our season would contain some major thumpings from the top sides the occasional unexpected victory and i expected we would finish 12th or lower.
Now how much of that has or is going to happen im not sure but getting beaten away by good sides like Cas and Wakefield should not have drawn the kind of criticism it has and would not have if we had performed better. i have not seen those games but i trust the comments of people who have seen us and are less than enamoured by our efforts so far. Even if their is no relegation a season of potential thumpings is not going to encourage new supporters and may well put off some of the old stagers. I like the comparison with Cas from last year, having no fear of relegation allowed them to blood youngsters and it looks like paying off for them. I reserve judgement on our Coach as i have stated i believe it may take six or more games for us to find our feet. If after that time we have continued to get thumped then he may come under a lot of pressure.

He who controls the present, controls the past. He who controls the past, controls the future.
